  1. This is one of the Mitchell (Michael) Louis Westheimer's companies. Westheimer storage was founded in the late 1800's. I was doing some research on Mr. Westeimer, he had a lot of companies! I almost bought some antiques on Ebay I stopped by the other day to snap a picture. I wonder if this is the last standing modern-day building of theirs. The family no longer owns it. The family sold the company some 50-years ago.
  2. City of Houston Department of Health and Human Services at 1115 North MacGregor Drive/South Braeswood Boulevard. Finally went to investigate this aging building. This large building and the University of Houston College of Nursing needs to go! I wonder how many years until this building is demolished and replaced with a fancy hospital.
  3. Noticed this the other day. I thought I was using the "medical center" term loosely, but a W. Orem address? Maybe if you map Levit Green's 3131 Holocombe address. Probably only 3 miles away from that medical development. https://jetstreamrvresortatthemedcenter.com/
  4. A beautiful Harvey banner posted on a storage unit a long he Highway 288 feeder. wow!! It's so big with a massive presence.

  6. On HAIF, there seems to be some confusion on the location of the first, original Antone's. Some mention the original location is at 807 Taft Street, but others say it was located on the Kirby/Main triangle in a gas station. Perhaps this confusion lies with the type of restaurant? One is a pop-up in a gas station, while the other is a dedicated brick & mortar store? "On the intersection of S. Main and O.S.T. there was a Sinclair service station that later became the 1st Antone's," https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/47894-sinclair-gas-stationantone’sdroubis-at-6500-south-main-st/#comment-568210 "I believe that those rail cars were originally Victoria's Station and then later became Antone's. It was on that triangular strip of land where Main and OST come together." https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/47700-victoria-gas-stationantone’sdroubis-at-7807-kirby-dr/#comment-19444 While looking at the Houston Public Library's Digital Archives I noticed some concrete information about the stores locations. Antone's #2 was located at 8111 South Main St. Antone's #1 was indeed located at 807 Taft St. Antone's #3 was located at 1639 South Voss St. From the research I did, there is still a location, although rebranded as Angelo'z "World's Best Po'boys", at 8057 Kirby Drive near Old Spanish Trail. https://cdm17006.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/postcards/id/1653/rec/1
  7. Founded by Ima Hogg on May 15, 1929, Child Guidance Center Of Houston served children with mental health disorders in the Houston and Harris County area. Found this while browsing the Houston Public Library's Digital Archives. https://cdm17006.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/images/id/2299/rec/1
  8. While browsing the Houston Public Library Digital Archives I found this old hospital in The Heights. Did the hospital merge into a different hospital system? Perhaps it went out of business if it didn't merge with another company. Any details with this one? https://cdm17006.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/images/id/5642/rec/158 Exterior of the Texas Christian Sanitarium, located at 341 W. 19th Avenue. circa 1911.

  10. There are three generations of psychiatric/behavioral hospitals here at 2801 Gessner Rd. From my research the story is as follows: In the mid 1990's a hospital named Spring Shadows Glen Psychiatric Hospital ran the place until the staff got into criminal trouble. The lawsuit claims Spring Shadows Glen Psychiatric Hospital is accused of perpetrating a "scheme to defraud by allegedly falsely diagnosing patients with multiple personality disorder caused by their alleged participation in a secret satanic cult." In 1997, or soon after, the hospital was shut down. https://www.psychiatrictimes.com/view/criminal-charges-filed-recovered-memory-case In 2003, when Menninger Clinic first moved to Houston, they filled the vacant space at 2801 Gessner. Once Menninger got situated in Houston and had their 50-acre "Mental Health Epicenter" built at 12301 South Main they left the space at 2801 Gessner. https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/Nationally-known-Menninger-Clinic-moves-to-Houston-2108195.php In 2012, Aurora Behavioral Healthcare bought 2801 Gessner and opened the Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital. Aurora Behavioral Healthcare, LLC (SHS) based in Corona, California, is one of the largest privately held psychiatric hospital companies in the country, serving thousands of patients every year. https://www.houstonbehavioralhealth.com/about/about-signature-houston In 2022, as of today, Menninger still a doctor with an office at 2801 Gessner.
