  1. Found it! From the newspaper Southwestern Times dated March 28, 1946. Sinclair Gasoline O'Quinn Auto Service Courteous - - - Sincere Service "Wunstopduzzit" Green Stamps Main at University H. 0239
  2. Aerial view from Google Earth. I wonder if someone will buy up that whole slender parcel? That includes 1) Surface lot 2) Apartment complex 3) Extra land. If so, I could see a 350-unit multifamily complex here.
  3. For sale!! 1.54-acres a few miles from the TMC. It should sell quickly for a multifamily redevelopment. Built in the 1960s, probably about time to build a higher density complex. The Citadel at Med Center Loop Crossing 9707 Timberside Dr https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/9707-Timberside-Dr-Houston-TX/29441139/ Lot Size: 1.54 AC Building Size: 56,794 SF Year Built/Renovated: 1961/1992 Building Class: C Located 3 miles from the Texas Medical Center, The Citadel at Med Center Houston has an enviable location along the 610/South Loop West freeway in the path of growth of the TMC as it continues to expand southward. The TMC recently purchased 500 acres south of the 610 Loop, 3.5 miles south of the property, where it’s newest campus, TMC BioPort, will be built. TMC BioPort will focus on bio-manufacturing and medical supplies distribution and will create over 100,000 new job opportunities.
  4. Noticed this matchbook recently and wondered about the business. Does anyone remember this store? I assume it was active in the 1960s. Looks to be where the current Robert's Carpet is, across the street from Shops at Arrive River Oaks. 5. wow!! This 1960s building is awesome looking! Never knew about it until this week. Does anyone remember this place, or business? I wonder the architect of this cool building? Location of old building? Was this where the current Exxon gas station is? At the intersection Buffalo Speedway & Danville Street. Article in the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated December 5, 1962. Over $1,000,000 This Year W.C. “Jack” Frost Frost Agency / 3839 Buffalo Speedway / JA 4-7474 / HO 8-2727 American Capitol Insurance Company pays tribute to W.C. “Jack” Frost, another American Capitol agent whose experience and counsel have brought his clients more than $2,000,000 worth of financial security during the past two years. Congratulations “Jack” Frost. Your continuing interest, enthusiasm, and leadership in our Company, coupled with your knowledge and experience, will undoubtedly assure your “million dollars a year” average for many years to come. 6. This is back on the market. Fresh on Loopnet, the listing was created yesterday! CBRE is now marketing this. The last was JLL. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/2001-Hermann-Dr-Houston-TX/29464137/
  7. John Roberts with the Hurricanes at Palladium Ballroom. It's fantastic that you can see everyone dancing, with their weird facial reactions. Classic photo!
  8. Al “TNT” Braggs Revue preforming live at Cinder Club. Love it!!
  9. The current home at 6219 Grand is sitting on a very cool parcel of land. It's abutting the Highway 288 freeway, and surrounded by trees. Usually, if your city home is surrounded by trees that would indicate you are wealthy. I'm not sure if the current occupants are wealthy though. I'm sure the parcel is a few acres? It might be worth something! HA and GE give different aerial photos. HA has a clearer image, but they are marked. 2023: 1953. I circled the building I think was the Teen Hall Club/Como Club/Castaway Club/Ray Barnett's Club. 4 different names for the club, apparently! Looks like Ray Barnett's was the last version? 1957: There was a pool? I see an elongated shape that's closer to the street.
  10. @Sgrt Clober You were not joking about the lovely walking trails. I stopped by the site today after postponing for several weeks. wow!! wow!! There is now an intersection of Holcombe Blvd at Levit Green Blvd! The Levit Green Blvd sign has the old fashioned Texas Medical Center top portion with the medical insignia. Just amazing!! Very cool "mini parks" or whatever they will be called. I hope to see the rest of the buildings go as planned. This will be a mini life science city in 10 years. Love your photo at night, by the way. For what it's worth, I discovered something new today. Apparently, Levit Green Building 1 is located on a street called Greensboro Drive, with an address of 2505 Greensboro Dr. I would have had thought the building would have a Levit Green Blvd address. Interesting!
  11. @Sgrt Clober Thanks for the post! I never knew about the old sign and went to check it out for myself today. What exactly does the old sign say? Doesn't look like it says Como Club or Teen Hall. From my understanding, it says: Ray Barnett's Yar ? R (B?) 17 * 7488 Edit: Ray Barnett's Cinnamon Cinder Club At 3249 Dixie Dr.
  12. Another business advertisement in The Roar. This time there is a P.O. Box listed, as well as the owner's name. Phone 353-7090 Doyle's Hardware Hardware, Sporting Goods, Housewares 21419 Highway 75 Doyle McTigrit P.O. Box 145 Spring, Texas 77373
  13. Found it! From Spring High School's yearbook called The Roar dated 1970. Doyle's Hardware Hardware, Housewares, Sporting Goods 21419 Highway 75 Phone: 757-4490
  14. TMC Helix Park getting amenities! I see more lawn chairs, bicycle racks, trash cans, and recycle bins. Collaborative Building: Two Dynamic Way: Site features: Parcel E, fully exposed. The construction trailers that used to be parked on half the parcel have been removed. Currently, there is a surface lot on one half. I believe this parcel was supposed to go to UTHealth? Parcel A, what's happening here? They have now been working on this parcel for about a month. Water related for the future build? Parcel B: One Dynamic Way: Helix Park, section 3 has lawn chairs!! Helix Park, section 4 water feature progress. Mixed-Use Garage:
  15. This has broken ground! This week, excavators have been pulling up the concrete surface lot. Let's go!! Additional banner with rendering has been posted on the fence. Nice looking building!
  16. Apparently, this 1930s residential home was designed by Joseph Finger. Cool! Joseph Finger was such an amazing architect. 7312 Main Boulevard Joseph Finger, 1931 Finger's office designed this trimly proportioned and detailed house is a French provincial vein; the asymmetric composition and steel casement windows are distinctive '30s attributes. I can't seem to find it on Google Earth. Unless if the wealthy person had a lot of extra land, and the home sat far back from the property line. Google Earth capture dated 1944:
  17. I was browsing a University of Houston student publication and came across this cool, historic, business advertisement. The student publication is dated 1964. Does anyone recall this place? Any memories or stories to share? As you build your future - Build your home and remember us Capital Title Co., Inc. 6605 South Main Houston 25, Texas
  18. I love this tree! The tree is just perfect. It's one of the only life forms still standing within the parcel. Hmmm I wonder? Maybe they could keep the beautiful tree and reuse it in their neighborhood park? Maybe like a memorial from the past. This South Main/Willowbend/Stella Link corner is kind of iconic and has been vacant for 30 years. They could honor a historical place. The tree will be demolished, sadly.
  19. wow. In this 1960s photo of the Astro Domain area, you can see that Fannin Street and West Bellfort were not extended yet. The bottom road is Holmes Road. Crazy to see this! I circled the roads before they were expanded.
  20. While looking at a photo of the Shamrock Hotel on Main & Holcombe I noticed something on the corner of my eye. There appears to be a First City Bank branch on South Main Street, right before you reach Holcombe Blvd. Does anyone remember this bank branch? I wonder the address? For some location context, it appears Valian's Restaurant located at 6935 South Main Street was next door. I don't know the bank's address, but that is close enough! You really need to study the building signage, but it reads First City. I believe, 20 years later, First City Bank moved down the block to 6424 Fannin Street. There were a lot of banks on South Main / Fannin. It's a business district, so money, cash, is involved. Lots of banks!
  21. Two aerial photographs that show the Shamrock Hotel under construction. wow!! Possibly the End-Of-Main Dance Hall on the upper right?
  22. Another 7200 Main view. wow!! I believe a few decades later, a pair of medical/office buildings were built. Then demolished so the St. Nicholas School could be built. Now that the school has been demolished we are awaiting the next chapter of 7200 Main. Whose mansion is on the far left? It has some type of gate, where as the others do not.
