They are putting them on Woodlands Parkway. After 2 million dollars for the untimed "timed lights," they putting these camera up.
Grab a clue. Time the lights on the ONLY east /west road in Podunk and people won't run them. Two million ought to buy something other than chaos.

I just trie to access the site at 1:11 pm Pacific Time and got the following message
Site is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for this inconvenience.
Still down. Front page pulls up and then kaput. Search engine/MLS is not working.

Seems its been down since last night. ANyone know what's up?
-
Yet these are the same parents that let their kids listen to Ludicris and other songs about Booty and Lady Lumps.

80 miles r/t for veggies?
Oy vey.
Nah, we are in town almost every weekend to see friends and to do interesting things. SO its right there. However, I did make a special trip just for that purpose once. This place can give you the crazies and some days you just need to get out.

We drive to Central Market in town as much as possible.
I agree the produce up here is gross. How hard is it to get fresh, gnat-less onions anyway? <shiver>

Woodlands PRKWY needs to employ to underpass system. What a nightmare that's become.

I understand now the entire complex is in bankruptcy.

About what does it cost to demo and clear a house? Approx size is 2800 sf brick and siding.
Thanks

Here's a retarded question, but how do you know once you've made the switch? Will something on the guide browser change?
Dunno but rr.com can't stay online to save its life today. So maybe its the day we switch to Comcast.

I guess it depends where you are looking but it still seems full steam ahead to me. The areas we are trying to buy its about 250k higher than it was 3 years ago. Its pretty painful the condition most of them are in to.
Part of the problem in the Memorial area is that there are so few listings. Our agents says people are not moving around the way they used to because they can't afford to move up. They sit and appreciate in value. The few that do go on are bought in just a few days and sometimes hours.

is this in an older neighborhood where there is some teardown action going on?
There are one or two homes that have been torn down, but most have been extensively remodeled. Looks like a regular old 1955 ranch house to me. <shrug>

I forgot about the missle. My brother bought a german helmet there. I also had a army jacket with the patches. Mine had a big pink floyd dark side of the moon triangle on the back and a woodstock over the left pocket. I was so cool. lol
There is a great Army Supply store in the 6000 block of Westhiemer and it does a rocking business. I bought all the army and camo stuff to do my son's room in.

Curious as to what an economic misimprovement means on the tax rolls.
Can anyone fill me in? I've toured some homes with this label, and I really don't see what justifies it.

i've noticed "now hiring" signs all over the woodlands (service industry mostly). there do not seem to be enough unskilled workers in the area. i've heard (not verified) that there are high school bus boys/girls and cashiers making $8/hr plus, before tips, in area restaurants.
the only business failures i've been aware of were corporate closures (forth & towne, storehouse) or businesses who didn't keep their customers happy and, also, bad locations (beauty first, backyard burger). bad ideas too (gator grill).
some of the new restaurants, like "buffalo southwest cafe", simply suck. bad service, mediocre menu, ignorant waitstaff (may have to do with lack of unskilled worker pool) and poor cooking. it seems that investors and franchisees think that anything you drop in the woodlands will succeed. not so.
Let's not forget the hiring of the "learning challenged".........OMG this place had made me so PC........... at the HEB due to lack of available labor. I run when I see them bagging. All my produce comes home crushed if I got through that line.
I sure do miss Shermon and Jerome at the Voss Randalls!

so since you're moving to memorial, where on the scale do you lie?
Basically killing ourselves to move into a house that is livable and not sinking into the gumbo
-
I think Memorial is the best public school if you have an average to above average student.......the 3 top ranking schools listed by the article are for "brainiacs." Affording Memorial is a whole nother ball of wax though.
-
I maintain, those that live in Memorial in a 800,000 ranch house in need of help are considered modest; those in the Woodlands are considered rolling in dough. Its an elevated since of importance, and they ain't gotta clue.
-
Hey Vic,
We are very curious about Memorial Thicket. Half the subdivision is zoned to HISD (The only area south of the bayou to be zoned there) and the other half zoned to Katy. What gives? Do you know the history? Is there anyway to request the other district. Its weird to have the kids across the street zoned to somewhere completely else.
Thanks!

LOL. I don't know if it was that bad. Let's hope not though.
My main concern was the HOURS that kid put in watching Beyonce or MTV. But she's better than Ludicris or R Kelly!!! He is a awesome dancer no doubt. I just think he is too young to be spending hours watching music videos. ...........but hey at least he's moving around.
BUt the dancing boy isn't even in the same league with the others.......
-
First one-The kids can dance, but it amazes me that a parent would let a kid watch a music video at that age.
SEcond One-Some people are just born idiots.
Third One- Why the hell would you post that on the internet?
Using your kids for a joke is unconscionable.

i agree with most of what your saying, red. however, since kuykendahl and gosling were completed through to sterling ridge and indian springs, and the woodlands parkway was opened up to 2978 between tomball and magnolia, it seems that crime has increased in the area. there are loads of trailer parks and low income areas across spring creek south of the newer neighborhoods. these "lower elements" are within five minutes, not forty-five minutes.
Not to mention all the yard crews, construction crews and cleaning crews have a pretty good working knowledge of homes/vehicles/daily routines/dogs or no dogs/etc. They talk to friends back in the "hood," which as bach said is literally only a few miles away.
-
NAtive, I am in Sterling Ridge. In general the Woodlands is safe, just the police force was not what was needed and they should have beefed it up years ago. BUt apparently it will get better. You have your loons here just like you would anywhere. Serious crime is rare. The service the area provides is lack-luster for the associations fees, imho....and they don't give a darn about the residents.
School- Honestly they aren't any better than SBISD. In fact our friends who have kids in SBISD seem to be a little ahead. Its just cheaper to live here for the schools. And CISD is very interested in the EXCELLENT ranking on the TAKS and devote most of the education towards getting that ranking. And we are very behind the private institutions, according to all the schools we have interviewed with. Verdict is still out on what the booming ESL program will do to the district, who doesn't even teach spanish in the program.
Area- The demographics are quickly changing. A large Latin population is calling this their school home. Bringing their kids in from Mexico to learn english and have a safer world to grow up in. Being from Houston this doesn't bother me, but there is a bit of a culture clash going on.
You certainly get more house for your money, but then you are stuck in the middle of no where and burning up the roads to get anywhere.
Taxes and Association Fees- Outrageous. Enough said.
Commute to Houston- Getting more ridiculous everyday
NAtive, its a good place. Some love it. Many like it. Many find what is here "enough" for them. Many are unhappy but know its best for their kids to stay here until they get through school. Most are traveling on through until the next transfer. Us? We are moving back to Houston.
When we moved here it was a balanced choice, when you had pros and cons on paper. It still is. But there is just an untouchable something that is missing for us as a family and we are willing to make some sacrifics in moving back to Houston. Houston has a lot of soul and pride and feels like a small town within a city. We miss all that.
........................
Bach to address your brainiac statement. I have heard so many comments directed toward me since I moved here like : How do you know so much? Where do you get all that energy?
Never in my life has anyone asked me those questions until here.

Ugh, I wonder what this is going to do to the housing market up here.
Best Suburb
in Houston Real Estate
Posted
I don't think you can rank a burb unless you live in one. The Woodlands provides NOTHING for the astronomical fees one pays. iwas once told Tanglewood was a suburb when I lived there....\
so if tanglewood is a burb, it ranks number one in my book.
