  1. Compare a shopping center in Wimberley, TX to the new stuff built in Cypress along 290 and you'll think the 290 stuff looks like junk. Okay, that's my rant for today, now it's off to work.

People vacation ranch in Wimberley, millions live in the Houston area. Big difference.

PA, you aren't gonna get your Boho Shantyville anywhere near the Houston Metroplex..or any other metroplex for that matter. That type of setup CANNOT sustain a large and sprawling community.

  2. What makes the Memorial area so affluent, despite of the huge lots, and nice homes. To which all of them lead to nice families to move in, and then the schools turn out to be nice too. But what else? I mean what if I'm developing a new master-planned community, what should I do to make my new master-planned community in to a new memorial area?

Well first you have convince masses of old Houston families to move to a master planned community.....that will never happen. Master plans have no exclusivity or privacy, which Memorial/Tanglewood has in the droves. Its a hard thing to give up. Also, master plan communities have a huge transient population, so pride in "THE neighborhood" never establishes.

So for starters: no strips malls, gas stations, apartment complexes, full acre wooded lots, private patrols or a neighborhood loyal police department, several exclusive membership clubs, close to town, incredible schools, great culture and resturants, great pride in the neighborhood and families that live there for generations....so yeah, there will never be another Memorial. But if you can tap into a few of those things, maybe you will create something that will be nice.

    JUST NO STRIP MALLS!

    Thank you

  3. there's something odd about becca cason thrash - i guess she's the type of person people hate to love - or love to love, i guess...

i mean, she's a filthy rich, designer-only clothes-wearing princess, co-founder of paper city who loves throwing over-the-top parties but giving ALL proceeds to charity (even most of the food is donated, so the enormous entry fee doesn't go toward any overhead). she is married to what seems like her polar opposite, and forces him to make appearances and stand around at all the parties...

from texas monthly: Becca came striding down a hallway toward the foyer, wearing a white Marc Bouwer gown so clingy it made the curves of her body look like a Putt-Putt course. Her hair was pulled back in a simple ponytail and a glass of chilled vodka was in her hand, which she waved around like an orchestra conductor's baton as she greeted her guests. "Sweetie, you're here!" she exclaimed to one woman. "If you hadn't been able to come, I would have slit my wrists with a dull razor blade!" She let out a whoop of laughter.

putt-putt? prima donna? drama queen? it's almost endearing! :D

the weird part is that i know enough to write all this about her :ph34r:icon8.gif

She really works it doesn't she? BCT is rather a parody of herself.

  4. PA, you do know that The Woodlands consists mainly of a large middle class and upper middle class population. They far out number the upper class...and the crazy, insane wealth of the inner loop, or near inner loop, is only here in a handful. 90% of the population is comfortable this is true, but most of them can't pop over to Amerigos or Flemings to do lunch with the gals every week.

PS-You like Bohemian? Well, upper crusters aren't known for being very bohemian........Upper middle isn't really know for it either......except maybe their teenage kids ;)

  5. I don't know here name, but she is old like Carolyn.

shops at Nieman Marcus and Saks Fifth Ave at least 3 times a week.

has jet black hair, (colored) and usually in a tight bun.

    porcelin white skin.

like to wear animal patterns and gold colored clothing.

high heels and skirts that show off the bottom of her legs.

skinny framed and seems pretty fit

    soft spoken

like I mentioned, i don't know her name, but she is always spending $$$ and I see he in those PAPER CITY fund raisers all the time.

Sounds a little like Martha Turner.......cept the gold clothing part.

  6. I have always found the Woodlands mall very depressing and never go. It reminds me of the small town malls in NC. I have no problems with the teens hanging out there, being posers, preps or otherwise. This is their time in life to figure things out. And its much better that that's being done inside the mall rather than running around in an outside mall late at night.

As to Woodlanders not using Market Street and the mall, in my experience you are right. Most of the people I know drive into the Galleria to do any major shopping.......I mean who wouldn't? Its a blast of reality and a show all at once. Otherwise most of the "necessity" shopping is done online these days anyway. Its such a hike to get around these parts that most people find it easier to get the size and style, or product, they want right of the net and delivered to their door. Since there are no "multiples" of the same stores up here, you will often spin your wheels trying to find a certain item.

A large portion of the concrete block has been tranformed so maybe that will continue. I really don't care either way, I don't spend time up there, except at the "Central Market" that really isn't.

Now when Churascos opens, that will pull me up there a few times a year. :P

  7. New development planned for The Woodlands

Houston Business Journal - 4:54 PM CDT Thursday

The Woodlands Development Co. has purchased a 400-acre tract of land for a new 900-home community.

The land is contiguous with the 28,000 acres that comprise The Woodlands and is located at FM 2978 just west of neighborhoods now in development in the Village of Sterling Ridge.

Plans for the new community, to be known as Spindle Tree, include more than 900 single-family homes and townhomes, two parks and hike and bike trails.

Prices will start in the $190,000s, and the first home should be available for purchase in 2008.

    http://houston.bizjournals.com/houston/sto...tml?jst=b_ln_hl

Yeah, and they said they were almost through building out. <_< They better put another school in this area, both Elem. schools back here are bursting at the seams with only about 50% of the "old final" build out complete. Another 900 homes will break the camels back. COulson Tough and Deretchin are both under 4 years old and over 1000 children in each.

  8. Yes back in Sterling Ridge. I will try to get some more information for you, perhaps the name of the responding officer.

Edit for further info: After talking to my neighbor she said it actually took 30 minutes. The officer told her it was a busy night and implied that her call wasn't serious............how would 911 know? What if the intruder had actually broken in after the call. He also told her they were getting 25 more officers in January so calls like this would be answered faster......

Anyway, she is contacting, via email, the governance and the association.

This is why the Woodlands needs a private patrol...not just the sherriffs department.

  9. Yes, it's built through now. Now all they need to do is turn Woodlands Parkway into an expressway. It takes WAY too long to get to the back of the Woodlands via Woodlands Parkway, Lake Woodlands, or Research Forest.

Totally agree. 20 minutes without traffic to back. And now they are installing 4 more lights west of Kuykendahl in addition to the two they just put up. That will add another 5-7 minutes. Everyone is starting to use Sterling Ridge as a parallel course for that part.

  10. The police issue around here needs to addressed before the Woodlands, or areas around it, build anymore "attractors."

In fact we are pretty convinced that police can't go west of Kuykendal (sp.) Its like an invisable forcefield. Our favor joke in Sterling Ridge is: The only cops we ever see are the Harris County police cars on their way to work.

Fix the problem, then build the park.

  11. Lemme guess, the board comes with all the properties already saying owned by WDC.

Community Chest says "Make excessive payments to the Association on all properties, or turn over your entire bonus check. Which ever is greater."

Chance says "Take a ride on the water taxi with a drunk stripping granny."

Free parking is actually a payment optional meter.

If you land on a utility, its an automatic tax.

    ;)

    Let's hear some more :D
