  1. I ate at Nit Noi Cafe on W. Grey last night.  I have to say that there are better Thai resturants out there.  In fact Bangkok Place on Westhiemer near Montrose kicks major butt.    I will say that I did enjoy my dinner last night.  Enjoy !!!

I would agree that its not the best Thai, but up here you have to take anything you can get. Otherwise you are subjected to Macaroni Grill type food. BLECH! We never seem to go out up here, just stay in and cook. Other than Perry's Steak House, we go into town for any evening out.

  2. Stop cutting down the darned trees!

Get RID of the new owners. They are turning this into a Walmart, Walgreens, mass apartment mess.

As you drive from 45 to the back you can see the changes that have happened since the original plan of The Woodlands. This General Growth Group is after the almighty buck and seems bound and determined to create another 1960 or Westhiemer. I bet they even let a "boobie bar" in.

Oh yeah, and block numbers on the street signs would help too.

  3. I think the replacement trees are usually less hardy than the native species. They also have growth spurts when they are young, but slow in maturity. It takes a long time for those trees to get to 100ft. Pines are usually very long-lived trees. The oldest organisms in the world are from a pine species which live out in California.

I drove by yesterday and even more of the"barriers" are gone. The promised 60ft buffer of NATIVE brush and trees has dwindled to a thinned out 5 feet or none in many spots.

And not to any surprise, I have made SEVERAL phone calls to the Operating Company, only to be transferred to answering machine. And guess what? No response.

    What a joke.

  4. National Citizenship ID cards are really needed. At least that way we would not be educating the illegals.

Just think of the saved educational funding for American Citizens we would have.

I remember standing in the registration line for Briargrove Elem (HISD) a few years back, behind a woman who was registering her two kids. She spoke no english and the Registrar noted that three families from that exact address had registered kids. And this was an apartment address in a building that had two bedroom apartments at the largest. And guess what?..............they let them into the school anyway.

  5. I'm with you guys on NC. Wilmington up to the outter banks is just beautiful. I'm torn between the coastal regions and the mountians out west around Hendersonville.

Those would be my two picks but unfortunately not a lot of need for petrophysicists out that way.

We are just west of HEndersonville, in Highlands. Its getting REALLY crowded up there lately.

  6. I just saw your post about summers in the Carolinas.  I grew up in Winston-Salem, went to RJ Reynolds High School.

You're correct about the possibility of going stir crazy, but I figure Raleigh is only a few hours away, so I could go get my NC State Wolfpack fix.  :D

    Please don't tell me you're a tarheel fan.  :(

Tarheel born and Tarheel bred, and when I die I'll be Tarheel dead. :P

  7. I just got back from New York, (I stayed in Islip Long Island, NY).

Any ways, There where dozens of illegals standing on street corners, and standing on the opposit sides of the street where people protesting the illegal aliens. They had big signs that said stuff like "Stop illegal immagration." I had saw stuff like this on TV and thought it was cool that I could see it in real life. Well I wonder why they don't do that down here? Has it gotten to bad here to where its to late?

I have summered in the NC mountains for 35 years. About 5 years ago, a small Mexican population cropped up. Now it may as well be Houston, with them loitering at the mountain gas station, looking for work, and not speaking a lick of English.

  8. Spring and her comment on inner city houston being destroyed.  So that then her suburb can thrive.  Sorry if it sounded like it was aimed at you.

I lived in Tanglewood for 15 years, LOVED IT, but the public schools were overwhelmed and below par. I avoided inside the loop at ALL costs. It was so congested and muddled. HOWEVER, I would kill myself to get to a good resturant in there!

  9. I don't want to get overly-emotional here, but that sight really bothered me yesterday.  It was kind of like taking a Picasso painting and ripping a hole in the middle of the center of its canvas.  Once you cut down trees that have been growing for hundreds of years, it's kind of hard to get them back.

Believe me no one is happy. And here is a HUgE surprise (not) no response from the WOC mafia. I bet a whole bunch of low income apartments are next. Right next to the WCC, ain't that grand?

  10. Memorial area/Piney point. The schools are great. But because of mold/health issues, we can't stomach the the 1.5 million minimum to get into a new house. Old homes are a health hazard to my family.

We had to move to the Woodlands to afford a good school and a new home. the community is lacking the charm, access and CULTURE of Memorial.

  11. I was driving down Woodlands Parkway yesterday from the far western edge of The Woodlands and I passed by an unusual sight: a new shopping center with the trees clear-cut...all the way up to Woodlands Parkway. I wonder if this is the new Wal-Mart we're talking about. I used to like driving along Woodlands Parkway 10 or so miles (from one end to the other) seeing nothing but trees. I've recently seen strips of land along thoroughfares in The Woodlands where they've been planting MORE trees. So this had to be some kind of a mistake.

YUP! That would be the Walmart. Ain't it grand? NOT.

  12. Ha. Did someone teach you the call or did you figure it out from the boxes on the side of the cup in what order to say it?

It would be "Vente, Hazlenut, Breve, Extra Whip, White Mocha" (Or V, H, B, XWC, WM if you would like to be technical.)

It always blows the counter guy's mind when I ask for, "Coffee. Regular, plain coffee."

  13. With any luck I'll never have to deal with SBC again.  I used to have their DSL.  It didn't seem as reliable as cable modem, and every time it cut out I had to re-sync the wireless router, which is kind of a pain.  SBC DSL doesn't work well with routers because they want to limit you to one connection.  Worst of all, they bundle the DSL with landline service, ie you can't get the DSL unless you pay for landline on top of it.  If you don't need or want a landline phone, tough luck.  When I finally tried to get rid of both the landline and DSL, they stalled for a couple of months on disconnecting the DSL and kept billing.  I've read online that this has happened to a number of people that tried to cancel DSL.  They seem to figure that if they make it hard enough to cancel, you'll eventually give up and keep it.

We have switched comletely to cell phones, as everything for us in The Woodlands is long distance. We do have an SBC land line for the alarm only.
