  1. According to these maps Park Pointe is zoned to: * Lakeview ES: http://www.fortbend.k12.tx.us/cmf/var/tidb...080818_1302.pdf * Garcia MS: http://www.fortbend.k12.tx.us/cmf/var/tidb...080818_1304.pdf * Austin HS: http://www.fortbend.k12.tx.us/cmf/var/tidb...080818_1305.pdf Goldshire Townhomes would be at 16827 Old Richmond Rd. According to FBISD's zone tool: http://zonemaps.fortbend.k12.tx.us/edulog/webquery/ it would be zoned to Oyster Creek ES, Garcia MS, and Austin HS. These maps and the tool confirm what JRC said.
  2. It's Chron.com that 'allowed all of those "letters to the editors" that got lost on the way to print to see the light of day.' - Of course if you see people blatantly violate the TOS, don't hesitate to report their posts.
  3. I think that METRO should have both a light rail service and a rapid service (maybe initially bus, maybe initially rail) to the airport. Where do most of the airport employees live? I don't have statistics, but I would imagine most live in north Houston. Maybe a light rail from Northline to Greenspoint to the airport (Airline Drive and then Greens Road?)
  4. This is near Montrose, but not in it: University of Texas Health Science Center operates the Dental Branch in the Medical Center area: http://www.db.uth.tmc.edu/ This page talks about the student clinics and how to become a patient: http://www.db.uth.tmc.edu/clinic-pat/Patie...ion/geninfo.htm AFAIK this is one of the cheapest dental options in the area
  5. Don't forget to use the FBISD school zone locator to determine which homes are zoned to which schools: http://zonemaps.fortbend.k12.tx.us/edulog/webquery/ FBISD also has maps which show the attendance boundaries of various schools listed here: http://www.fortbend.k12.tx.us/cmf/default....ion=parentlinks In many rapidly-growing areas, school boundaries may shift like sand, so keep that in mind when you buy your home.
  6. Our good friends at the Houston Chronicle posted an article about the death of the U.S. Circuit City: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/6300358.html Bell Canada is buying the Canadian The Source by Circuit City stores.
  7. My sister babysat a girl who had to attend these various preparatory programs - and the girl was in elementary school. For some kids this is very much true. I second this. My parents and I see Houston as a great place to be a kid and grow up; but I would imagine the view would be different if my family was in a terrible neighborhood or apartment complex.
  8. The article says: "Houston, Texas. Not everything is bigger in Texas. Sure, the dropout rate in Houston is bigger and the crime rate is bigger, but the number of park playgrounds is certainly smaller." Which dropout rate? The school district system in Texas has "independent" school districts, so different bits of Houston are covered by different school districts, each with their own dropout rates. And is this supposed to compare city limits or metropolitan areas? Where are the methods? The research? Also the "Thinking of relocating with your children? Steer clear of these cities." bit is quite alarmist.
  9. Never? In tests frequently the problems that are wrong involve absolutes, such as "always" and "never" - life is complex. Plus the US government is a group of warring bodies, not an absolute monolithic body.
  10. It's likely the Thai character - According to the KnowPhuket website displays of violence/anger are against Thai culture. I particularly like this article: http://www.knowphuket.com/Articles/2007051...be-grateful.htm "She should be Grateful !" - According to this many Thai love living in Thailand and are not afraid of their previous lives
  11. With your wife at Schlumberger Sugar Land it makes perfect sense to move to northeast Fort Bend County. Please look at the FBISD zoning maps here: http://www.fortbend.k12.tx.us/cmf/default....ion=parentlinks
  12. And also to check how their automobiles or the automobiles they drive lock; some cars can be locked automatically, but others (older and/or more inexpensive models) must be locked manually on all sides.
  13. I believe 610 @ MLK is more "South Park" - Sunnyside Proper is at Bellfort @ Scott. - South Park (around Jones HS) is certainly described in many publications as a rough area. What I was asking is about the area around Bellfort @ Scott. That's why I said ask the Police Storefront. What I meant was, what is the probability of random crime (what people fear)? What is the quality of life? Is recreational drug use obvious? - A lot of low-cost housing in Houston is in bad areas; I just don't know exactly whether Sunnyside is a "no-go" area or a "maybe" area for living. To clarify, is this referring to South Park, or is this referring to the area around Bellfort @ Scott?
  14. According to HAR, the Sunnyside area has some seemingly inexpensive properties. But I don't know much about the day to day life in the neighborhood. Maybe you could stop by the HPD Storefront on Reed Road and ask what living in Sunnyside is like in terms of personal safety, recreation, etc.
  15. I would like to see Island Transit extended to League City, La Marque, Hitchcock, Dickinson, and/or League City. I think better public transport and linking the mainland populations to the island will help out Galveston. Do you guys think League City and/or Texas City will become the commercial center for Galveston County? I also wish that someday Scholes would get flights to Dallas, but I dunno how economical that would ever turn out to be.
  16. I would imagine that Spring Forest and Memorial both offer good education. Katie, why not show these people this page: http://www.rjgeib.com/biography/inner-city...s/innerblu.html - Berendo Middle School in Los Angeles in the 1990s screams "Hood School"
  17. That will still be true in terms of the middle and high schools. The elementary school zones will change. * Starting around 2009: http://www.springisd.org/docs2/ccrd/Map%2008.pdf * 2008: http://www.springisd.org/docs2/attendance/AllElem.pdf So this will affect the following elementary schools straddling FM 1960: * Ponderosa will lose all territory south of FM 1960 to Helen Major (Sugarpine) and Bammel ES. It will take new territory west of Kuykendahl from Reynolds * Reynolds will lose some territory west of Kuykendahl to Ponderosa and lose some territory south of FM 1960 to Helen Major. Ponderosa will gain territory from Beneke and Thompson * Bammel ES will gain territory south of FM 1960 from Ponderosa So Ponderosa no longer has territory south of FM 1960, while Bammel will now have south of FM 1960 territory and Reynolds will continue to have south of 1960 territory. So what does Spring ISD need to do next? * Build a school South of FM 1960 to relieve Bammel ES and Reynolds. * Build more elementary schools and one middle school east of Interstate 45
  18. So, you are saying buy the necessities before spending on luxuries or schemes to become rich. Well, that's plain common sense. But what I wanted to get at was; why focus specifically on these people and not others? I would imagine a lot of people would say "focus on the necessities first." Also, many of us depend on governments on some way or another. Want your trash taken out? Want that pothole repaired? - And as for financial well being, Social Security is among the most popular programs ever instituted.
  19. Well, two wrongs don't make a right. Also WTA hosts are required to let all of the qualified contestants in. Will the WTA keep faith to its own rules?
  20. To be fair crimes committed by people who know each other don't scare people. Random crime scares people. Murder by spouses/etc can happen anywhere.
  21. So, why do you feel they are trustworthy and everyone else is not trustworthy?
  22. Like this? As said earlier, why not ask Borders to build in the City of Katy? B&N may be reluctant as they have West Oaks. But Borders certainly has a gaping hole in the West Harris/North Fort Bend market.
  23. Tee-hee! The Barnes and Noble is in West Oaks Village (2450 State Highway 6) is in Katy ISD. There are no Borders within Katy ISD. Perhaps you can ask Borders to build one in the City of Katy or someplace nearby.
  24. So I find this on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/02/15/...rael/index.html * From my understanding the UAE has no legitimate reason to deny Shahar Peer, an Israeli, a visa so she can participate * The WTA said "WTA unhappy, says move runs counter to its policy" - No, it should have frozen the tournament until Peer received her visa * Other players should, in good conscience, not play until Peer gets the visa
