  1. Not a bad idea. It would be nice to have that sculpture in a more accessible spot. Discovery Green Conservancy seems like a good place to start, or maybe one or more of the Conservancy's board members or officers. Wouldn't hurt to contact the Mayor too.

  3. We have found one example of Hines buying a property and holding it for a few years before developing it (or selling it). But even in that case (the site of 1000 Main), it was likely never their intention to hold it for any significant period of time before developing; events intervened. Holding property for later development does not seem to be Hines' MO.
  4. It might come as surprise to the the Al Tayer Group to see your stories about the Dubai and Abu Dhabi Bloomingdale's. Seems the Chalhoub Group's "ownership" of the Dubai Bloomingdale's might also perplex the folks at Macy's, Inc. (not Federated Department Stores - they changed their name about 9 years ago... pretty common knowledge), the owners of Bloomingdale's.
  5. There appears to be ongoing work...
  6. What is the Lionstone/Midway JV at 100 Waugh? Not sure I've heard anything about that one. All things considered, I think this is pretty clearly for the post office site.
  7. From the updated site map, it appears that there is no Phase 2. All in one phase now?
  8. Not to put too fine a point on it, but you are an ignorant troll. (And I use the word ignorant in the friendliest kindest sense; you simply don't know what you are typing about.)
  9. That was a Co-Op. Quite a different animal from the full-fledged Barney's New York. Having said that, Barney's New York also had a store in the Houston Galleria a few years back. I'm pretty sure they also had a store in the Dallas Galleria at the same time. So they've tried and failed in Dallas twice.
  10. Yeah, I get it. Quite well. I get that you have been spinning a web of untruths on this topic from the beginning. Let's play the tape: He said very simply that he doesn't want to have to rely on up cycles to be able to trade. That's all he said. He did not (nor did H-Town Man) say any of the other words you attempted to put in his mouth. You claimed he would have said such things (including things he didn't actually say) in order to appease investors. When it was pointed out he doesn't have investors, you changed the alleged motivation to the fact that he's entering a new market and would say such things in order to sound abrasive to drum up interest in his new project, apparently ignorant of the fact that the quote was made not to a Houston journalist, but to a local Australian journalist regarding Australian projects... in September 2013. Almost every word you've said about this matter has been incorrect.
  11. The new Terminal C South is coming along nicely. Looks like they have started installing glass.
  12. Please enlighten us. Why did Mr. Russo say what he said in that specific way at that specific time? ;-)
  13. You're putting words in his mouth. All the article says is: "Russo says he doesn't take notice of cycles, noting inner-city areas are always in demand. "I don't want to have to rely on up cycles to be able to trade. I like to always have something to sell, and those locations have proven to me that they sell whether the market is good or bad."" Nowhere has anyone claimed that he ignores market trends and basic economic logic.
  14. Except that he's not just CEO. He's the CEO and Owner, using his own capital. No investors or lenders to appease or impress.
  15. Judging by the logo on the water tower, I'm guessing it belongs to the city of West University Place.
  16. Just to keep things accurate: Stanley was not one of the co-founders of Neiman Marcus. The store was founded by Stanley's father, aunt, and uncle. Also, Gerald Hines did not bring Neiman Marcus to Houston. Neiman Marcus's first Houston store opened in 1957 in downtown Houston.
  17. They may soon learn that being a place to see and be seen isn't enough to make it in Houston . It's what Stanley Marcus said -- "in Dallas you can sell the sizzle, but in Houston you have to show them the steak."
  18. ^ That would be West of 59, not east. And this is the plot that was the subject of Houston First's RFP last year (Would it be too much to expect a real estate writer/journalist to be familiar with the compass and have a passing knowledge of real estate activities? I guess so.) ______________ Houston First Corporation (“HFC”) requests bids from experienced general contractors capable of timely and cost-effective construction of an approximate 12,000 square foot building, stage, surface parking and other facilities intended for use as an entertainment venue on a tract of land (the “Land”) located immediately south of the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston, Texas (“Project”). Work on the Project is to expected to begin on June 1, 2016 and must be completed within 150 calendar days. http://www.houstonfirst.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=8tywV7JojOQ%3d&tabid=373&portalid=3&mid=1174
  19. Apparently The Astoria has (or had, perhaps depending on individual customizations?) individual pools for some units as well. From their website: Four Sky Pools Available
  20. I think Star Pizza is moving into the old bank building.
  21. I don't think the downtown TIRZ is doing anything that has been in any way extorted or even requested by the NFL. They are merely doing some infrastructure and other enhancing projects that will benefit the downtown community and be done in time to put on a good face for the Super Bowl crowds (and the vaguely-proposed southern downtown park was never on a schedule to be anywhere near complete by February 2017).
