  1. Not sure where you got the 163,000 number. The growth from 2014 to 2015 was 159,083. Still phenomenal and the largest increase in the country (I wonder if any US metro area has ever before grown by 159,000 in one year. The population (estimate) as of July1, 2015 was 6,656,947. So, yes, we are almost certainly over 6.7 million by now.
  2. 2015 Census Metro area estimates came out today: Houston metro area: 6,656,947.. increased 159,083. 2014-15 growth rate: 2.45%. 2010-2015 growth rate: 11.914% (I wonder if any US metro area has ever before grown by that much in one year?) Austin: 2,000,860... increased 57,395. 2014-15 growth rate: 2.953%. 2010-2015 growth rate: 15.816% San Antonio: 2,384,075. increased 51,285. 2014-15 growth rate: 2.198%. 2010-2015 growth rate: 10.722% DFW: 7,102,796... increased 144,704. 2014-15 growth rate: 2.08%. 2010-2015 growth rate: 10.076%
  3. I've noticed that sometimes developers get FAA permits for taller than the structure is intended to be. Crescent did that with their new building in Uptown Dallas, IIRC.
  4. Wow. Has that ever been mentioned by any of our illustrious news purveyors?
  5. The number of transit systems that operate 24/7 is VERY small. Like, count-on-one-hand small. 1. New York City 2. Copenhagen 3. ?? Anyone know of another one?
  6. Is there some reason tunnels are more difficult and cost-prohibitive on the east side of downtown compared to the west side of downtown?
  7. A flashy plaza like Victory in Dallas to draw people in?? That thought is making me dizzy. The last thing we need is a flashy, deserted plaza like Victory.
  8. I think you're right. I missed a "completed" level hiding behind the scaffolding near the top. That gives us 41 stories . . . 40 stories plus a crown/mechanical "floor" on top, all as originally planned: 2 story podium 34 stories "completed" and windowed 5 stories above un-"completed."
  9. I count exactly 40 stories in the picture posted above. 2 story podium 33 floors "completed" and windowed in the tower 5 floors above un-"completed".
  10. Their existence must be accepted, of course (and no one suggested otherwise). But we do not have to, and must not, accept the Metro trains and stations being turned into homeless shelters.
  11. Huh. And all these years, we've been told Dallas was built out and had no room to grow...
  12. Yeah, Metro really needs to get control of their rail lines, especially the northern segment of the Red Line. It is idiotic to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on a transportation system and then allow it to become a homeless shelter.
  13. Another great job of reporting by the Chronicle. (and yes, I'm being sarastic) The sub-headline says the project now has a "year-end completion date". The article says the project will now be completed in September.
  14. The hotel is expected to open in April, 2017. So, no.
  15. It turns out I was right to be skeptical. Steve Brown writes a lot of cheerleading puffery, but I am not used to seeing such dishonesty as this. In order to claim that Dallas leads the state, he combined the numbers in the CBRE reports for Downtown Dallas/West End/Deep Ellum (1,904 units) with Uptown/Oak Lawn/Highland Park (2,702 units). Then he compared that to the number from Houston for just downtown (3,437 units). An honest comparison would have to include at least the Montrose/Museum/Midtown numbers (3,623 units). But that would put Houston at 7,060 units... apparently not the answer Steve Brown wanted.
  16. I don't work in the construction industry, but I have 20:20 eyesight. There is significant activity on the sight right now. There is NO reason to think this project is dead.
  17. We have some shared paths along Fulton between Boundary and Irvington.
  18. According to the article, nobody has landed anything yet. The article (and even the article's headline) clearly say C&W is eyeing and shopping and looking.
  19. Cool info. Thanks. (Oh, what I would give to have a newspaper of that quality serving Houston.) Curious how many of those moves were subsidized by the City of Chicago.
