  1. It's also worth pointing out that it is even more of a fantasy that travelers to D-FW will be able to step out of the near-downtown Dallas train terminal and be at their final destination. An even smaller portion of DFW business is in their downtown than is the case for Houston. The business traveler to D-FW will be headed to an office or hotel downtown/uptown, LBJ, Plano, Frisco, Richardson, mid-cities, Ft Worth, etc., etc., etc. The near-downtown Dallas site is very far removed from the economic or population center of the metropolitan area and will be walkable to almost nothing. Putting the station there just removes so much of the utility. ;-)
  2. "We" didn't turn it into anything. "We" had nothing to do with it. Just as "you" had nothing to do with their selection of a near-downtown Dallas site. This decision was made by the private entity that will be paying for and operating the rail line and that, incidentally, gathered the facts regarding the costs and benefits of various station locations. Take your trolling somewhere else.
  3. Those "very dated terminals with the bland, beige walls on the outside" are becoming more and more scarce. If anything is going to look out of place it will be the few remaining bland beige walls.
  4. Hardy was not scaled back. The extension into downtown was not part of the plan. From Houston Freeways: "The recommended feasible section was a 21.6-mile (34.6 km) segment from Loop 610 to IH 45 near the Harris-Montgomery County line. At the south end the report recommended terminating the tollway at Loop 610 due to the high number of displacements and high cost of extending the facility into downtown, which was estimated at $115 million in 1982, approximately 204 million in 2003 dollars. The report concluded that the existing freeways and streets between downtown and Loop 610 would be adequate to handle the traffic."
  5. Occidental plans to relocate up to 100 employees from Dallas to Houston.
  6. Do you have any evidence to support this claim?
  7. Yeah, that was one of the more egregious examples of the rush to hate that is endemic on this board. A lot of our forumers act as if there is a prize for being the first to hate on a project.
  8. Construction has started to come out of the ground on the new Terminal C North. http://www.earthcam.net/projects/houstonairport/intercontinental/
  9. How much would that croissant cost at any other Starbucks?
  10. Phillips 66's new headquarters' amenities will include a sports deck with putting greens and a soccer field... Would a Fortune 500 company have a sports team?
  11. Nothing even close to this size any closer to the TMC. Sheesh, people are acting like they're proposing this in Fulshear. It is just outside the loop and less than 2.5 miles from the southern point of the current TMC footprint. It does expand the TMC footprint, by 2.5-3 miles!
  12. Just for the record, you will need to direct your ire at past leaders, not any recent leaders. New billboards have not been allowed in Houston or its ETJ for decades (since 1980). Most remaining billboards in Houston are along federal highways, where federal law governs and does not allow Houston leaders to remove them. While 40 years ago, Houston was probably noteworthy for having out-of-control billboards, that is no longer the case.
  13. I don't think the Super Bowl is very relevant to the future of the Astrodome. I don't think anyone expects anything to be done in time for the Super Bowl.
  14. Changes to the distributions from the Permanent University Fund require a constitutional amendment. There have been moves afoot in recent years to do that, but not sure how far they've gotten.
  15. setting aside the HAIF self-loathing, he's wrong.
  16. For the love of God, I never would have thought it possible, but this board has actually gotten more negative than ever.
  17. Please stop posting lies. United does NOT have 7 daily flights from IAH to CUN.
  18. So, when you said, and I quote, "The CEO fired a lot of upper management." (referring to Munoz), you were... lying?
  19. My money is on "poor little Randy Davis" not really giving a @* about any of the HAIF posters. ;-) He's too busy building things and making money while they sit at their computers throwing spitballs.
