  1. Oh, yes. I forgot that 1114 Texas is slated to be a Hyatt Place. I was referring to the earlier proposal for a Hyatt Place on La Branch (on the same block where the Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites are going). The proposal on LaBranch was indeed canceled and the developer sold the property. The proposed Hyatt Place in 1114 Texas is by a different developer.
  2. Currently, the smallest NHL arena appears to be in Winnipeg, with 15,000 seats. It seems quite unlikely they would award a new franchise or relocated team for an arena smaller than 15,000.
  3. The power lines are already all buried in that area. Any visible lines are either construction-related or the power system for the Metro rail lines.
  4. But GE is also very publicly considering moving their headquarters out of Connecticut.
  5. I presume that $5.2 Million is from a building permit? That is most assuredly not the full cost of building a six-story apartment building such as this. Not even close.
  6. Interesting that you would link to that particular site. Mr. Kuffner poses some great questions to opponents of the drainage tax (such as houblu): If it goes down, then what if anything replaces it? I feel like I spent a lot of time back in 2010 asking Renew Houston opponents what they would do to provide more funds for flooding and drainage improvements, and I never got anything resembling a coherent answer. So I’ll ask again, with an eye especially at the Mayoral candidates. If not ReBuild Houston, then what? How do you provide more funds to do more street repairs and flood abatement? Remember, we live in a revenue cap world, so simply proposing a property tax increase (not that anyone would, I suppose) is insufficient. If you don’t propose some kind of supplemental revenue stream, then as far as I’m concerned you’re not serious about wanting to do street improvements and flood mitigation.
  7. Cool. Does anyone have the link to the Chronicle's report on this development?
  8. It was restored/renovated, but not by Hines and not with the development of BG Group Place. Spire Realty Group renovated the building, in the 2002-2004 time period. It was reported at the time to have been a $13-14 Million renovation. They were marketing it as office and retail condominiums. But as far as I know, they never sold a single square foot.
  9. Yeah, it has Pickard Chilton (the architects of both 609 Main @ Texas and the Devon Energy Center) written all over it. I doubt OKC residents care as much about this thing reaching 851 ft as you do about it reaching 757 ft.
  10. Did you mean to say Cartier and Chanel, rather than Tiffany and Chanel? In any event, I think these renderings are just marketing. I don't think there is any real indication that either of these stores has committed to moving in to the "jewel box". And there's indications that neither plans to. River Oaks District has announced Cartier as a tenant. And Chanel just completed a complete remodel of their Galleria store.
  11. By "staying at the jewelry box", do you mean they are moving in to the "jewel box" under construction at The Galleria? Where did you get that information?
  12. Here's what the Houston Business Journal reported just last month: "Camden has two tracts of land in downtown Houston that it is eying for future development, Campo said. However, Camden likely will have no construction starts in Houston this year due to the onslaught of new apartment projects flooding the market, sky-high construction costs and oil prices hovering near six-year lows, he said. “Even if we wanted to start this year, we couldn’t,” Campo said. “There could be a 2016 start. We’ll watch to see if the timing is right.”"
  13. I count 45 or 46 floors (depending on whether you count the first floor as one or two, plus the crown, of course. 609 Main is 48 floors, plus a crown.
  14. Probably Rice University. Don't they own everything inside the Loop? ;-) Actually, it appears that it is probably owned by the family of the late German billionaire Hugo Mann. (I think they also own Pennzoil Place.)
  15. 2 things: 1) Unless you rent a car or stay in a hotel in Harris County, or go to a game or other event at one of the stadiums, they do not, and have not, cost you a dime. 2) The Astros lease requires the Astros to maintain the stadium and allows them to make improvements. Basically, if the Astros want upgrades, they pay for upgrades. Unless there is some special agreement for these improvements, it appears they will be paid for by the Astros. (If anyone is interested in gathering facts before pitchforks, it might be useful to know that the Astros (and not you, Samagon) paid for the $10-13 Million of stadium upgrades that were done in 2010, including the giant video screen.
  16. Fortune 500 came out today: Houston metro area now has 26 Fortune 500 companies. That is the same number as on the 2014 list. The primary changes: -- We added Occidental Petroleum and -- Noble Energy dropped out of the 500 (they are now at 505. No doubt a result of the drop in oil prices.) Our count of 26 is without counting NRG, which is listed as headquartered in New Jersey, but technically is dual-headquartered in NJ and Houston. The State of Texas has 54, up 2 from last year. D/FW has 21, up 3 from last year. Here is the list for Houston: 1) 7. Phillips 66 2) 51. ConocoPhillips 3) 59. Enterprise Products Partners L.P. 4) 61. Sysco 5) 67. Plains GP Holdings L.P. 6) 96. Halliburton 7) 115. Occidental Petroleum 8) 119. Baker Hughes 9) 127. National Oilwell Varco 10) 162. Anadarko Petroleum 11) 167. EOG Resources 12) 193. Kinder Morgan 13) 217. Waste Management 14) 218. Apache 15) 227. Marathon Oil 16) 275. Cameron International 17) 291. Group 1 Automotive 18) 313. CenterPoint Energy 19) 329. Targa Resources 20) 353. Calpine 21) 357.FMC Technologies 22) 361. Quanta Services 23) 406. Buckeye Partners 24) 424. KBR 25) 448. MRC Global 26) 449. Spectra Energy
  17. I don't think plans for new Terminal C North include any A380-capable gates. When the new Terminal D is complete, it will have 4 A380-capable gates. United will still be able to use Terminal D gates.
  18. Yeah, I think you're almost certainly right. Probably a combination of the white, the gray, the black and (hopefully at least some) glass.
  19. I'm presuming urbanize713 was asking about the north side of the building, not the east side. From the plans, I would guess it will be pretty much a solid wall. It appears the north side of the base structure will be pretty much occupied by back-of-house functions, so likely few, if any, windows or other fenestrations. However, given the design of the structure, I would guess the solid walls might be at least partly covered by a glass curtain wall.
  20. Is Fusion Taco gone? I had been guessing La Fisheria would be moving into Green Street (like where the book store used to be.)
  21. I would imagine the soil conditions would have to be factored into a standard ballast and tie railbed at least as much as they had to be in the embedded-in-concrete line.
  22. I think it might be cheaper to build the standard ballast and tie system, but the long-run maintenance and total life-span cost are significantly higher with the standard ballast and tie system. Here is an interesting article.
  23. Just guessing here, but probably because they needed room to park until the new parking garage is done.
  24. According to Sugar Land's website: "There are two park and ride facilities in Sugar Land: one at the AMC Theater First Colony and one at the UH – Sugar Land campus. Fort Bend County Public Transit provides one-seat service from each facility to the Texas Medical Center, Greenway Plaza, and Galleria areas.Fort Bend County Transit also provides service to downtown Houston via a transfer to METRO. Fort Bend County Transit’s Greenway Plaza route stops at METRO’s West Bellfort Park and Ride, which is located near West Bellfort at US 59" As arndthwrld82 already mentioned, Katy has park & ride. And FWIW, it's hardly "news" that The Woodlands is doing Park & Ride. There have been Park & Ride buses running from The Woodlands to Houston for decades. Seriously, which major suburbs do not have park & ride?
