  1. I think renaming the street is pretty silly. But if there is actually a possibility of renaming it, this is a great idea!
  2. The Heritage Society is a non-profit charity. I'm sure they are always looking for help and contributions. Here's the Get Involved link. Here's the Membership link.
  3. Maybe you should visit the Houston Heritage Society. It's been in Sam Houston Park since 1954.
  4. The linked article does not say that the Tokyo-Nagoya maglev is currently under construction. It only says that Japan "has plans to build" maglev from Tokyo to Nagoya and Osaka (and given the 2027 completion date, one hopes it is not actually already under construction).
  5. Pretty sure those are not all garage entrances/exits. Looks like we have a drop-off/valet drive entrance and exit, in addition to a garage entrance/exit.
  6. We are not talking about a simple terminal building. It is a very complicated project with multiple phases because they are replacing current terminal structures with new structures while fully operating the current structures. Also, I believe the serious building construction cannot even start until 2017'ish because step 1 is for United to build their new Terminal C/B North concourse. When United has their new concourse built they will vacate Gates C14-23 (they are required to vacate that space no later than some time in 2017; I don't recall the exact date). When United vacates that section, the C14-23 concourse will be demolished and serious work gets started on the new Terminal D.
  7. --There is no reason to even think of building a new airport. --They considered building a new International Terminal completely separate from the current terminal complex but most of the airlines hated the idea. The idea was not dismissed because of a lack of money. --We are not doing a renovation of Terminal D. The new Terminal D will be an entirely new building. The existing Terminal D will be completely demolished. --There is really nothing at all wrong with the footprint design of IAH.
  8. Beautiful plan. I love what they are doing here. The pricing will be interesting. I would imagine the $600-700/sq ft range is probably very close. FWIW, since 1/1/2014, 12 units in 2727 Kirby have sold. They have ranged in price from $512.48/sq ft to $736.03/ sq ft. The median sale price was about $645/sq ft. Interestingly, the mean (average) sale price was almost exactly the same as the median ($644.56/sq ft.)

    IAH Vs. DFW

I count 21 (actually now 22) foreign flag carriers because there will be 21 (now 22) foreign flag carriers serving George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The term "foreign flag carrier" does not designate state-owned carriers. It is any air carrier other than a US flag air carrier.
  10. ^ and your "month" is closer to 2 1/2 weeks. So the early part of that May-June period looks more likely for the topping off.
  11. They are working on the fourth floor of a 5-story building. Even if your "floor a month" estimate is accurate, that would put the top off closer to May-June than July-August.

  13. The entirety of federal spending to keep servicing small airports (the Essential Air Service Program), for all airlines and all airports covered by the program, was less than 1/4 of a Billlion Dollars in 2014. FWIW, neither CLE nor YYZ are subsidized under the program.
  14. Hmmm. I wonder if that was from when they were proposing a 35 story building. 11.7 feet per floor seems a bit unlikely.
  15. ^ yeah, inbound super-easy (and a fun ramp). The way out has not changed yet.
  16. The train was moved from Hermann Park to downtown in August 2005. For the record, the tracks that were laid were the new tracks and ties at its new resting place downtown. They did not lay tracks all the way from Hermann Park to downtown. They loaded it on a trailer for the move.
  17. More evidence that TCR has not, in fact, foresworn the use of eminent domain, as Luminare would have us believe. Thanks for posting. Luminaire told us that "They won't be using eminent domain". We have still seen no evidence to support that unqualified statement. Wanting to use eminent domain sparingly is far different from declaring you aren't going to use it at all (as Luminare told us TCR has said). It is not at all hard to understand that use of eminent domain will be and should be the last resort. It's expensive, time-consuming and tendentious. Neither should it be hard to understand that there's a huge difference and a contradiction between: (i) flatly stating "TCR won't be using eminent domain" (something TCR has apparently not said, contrary to Luminare's representations) and (ii) saying they hope to use eminent domain sparingly (which TCR has said repeatedly).
  18. Perhaps you misunderstood my question. I didn't ask what made you think TCR or TCP was going to make eminent domain their weapon of choice (nor did I claim they said such a thing). I asked what made you think TCR will not use eminent domain. -- I have read the post where you put up the link to the Madisonville Meteor and I've read the Letter to the Editor contained therein. The letter does not once even mention eminent domain. -- Of course eminent domain will be avoided. That can be said about every project undertaken by every entity that has the power of eminent domain. Land acquisitions are always attempted by negotiation first. Intending and planning/hoping to avoid using eminent domain is not the same as stating that they will not be using eminent domain. -- I cannot find anywhere on their website where it says they will not use eminent domain. In fact, their website makes it quite clear that they both have the power of eminent domain and will use it if necessary. As a last resort; again, the use of eminent domain is always a last resort. -- Perhaps you could provide some links to articles where they have said they will not use eminent domain? -- Nice strawman, but of course you know that neither I nor anyone on this thread has claimed that TCR or TCP has stated that eminent domain will be their weapon of choice. As such, I will be supplying no evidence to support a claim I have not made. As discussed above, eminent domain is never anyone's weapon of choice. It is always plan B. But not being the weapon of choice is far different from declaring that the weapon is off the table. I have not seen anywhere that they have said eminent domain is off the table, as you have suggested. In the vein of "please supply this evidence", I would ask again for your evidence that TCR or TCP has said they will not use eminent domain; that they have taken the eminent domain weapon off the table. -- The statement that TCR will not use eminent domain indeed isn't "just some idea." It's far less than that. From the facts you've given us, it appears to be nothing but pure unadulterated nonsense, borne of illogical emotions swaying your understanding (to coin a phrase.)
  19. Where'd you get the idea they won't be using eminent domain?
  20. The sign posted at the construction site makes it look like Camden is indeed building the parking garage.
