  1. I think the key phrase in your post is "there is no mechanism to stop the apartment building..."
  2. Pretty much impossible to predict what United might do, especially under its current leadership.
  3. The discussion above said that Step 1 is for United to build the first of the Terminal B North concourses (not "build out" Terminal B North). The referenced concourse is referred to as Terminal C North concourse in the latest HAS documents. The earlier project descriptions discussed this new concourse as being part of Terminal B. What is being built first has not changed or been reversed. Only the name of the concourse has been changed. The discussion above never addressed the timing of the "build out" of the remainder of Terminal B North.
  4. I just ran across an interesting tidbit in the minutes of the Houston First Corporation Theater and Convention District Operations Committee: They are working on a new Master Plan for Miller Theatre. "The plan includes an underground parking garage."
  5. According to HAS spokesman speaking at February 17 IAH Master Planning meeting, United will start work next month on the new Terminal C North concourse (in between the current C North and current B North). This is the first step in the plan for redevelopment of Terminal D.
  6. To read some posters on this forum, one would think Houston was the only city in the civilized world with overhead power lines.
  7. But there is no "this". There is no real building proposal yet and more to the point ... Perot has never talked about building a super-tall or said anything about height at all. Perot has used words like "landmark" and "iconic" but I'm pretty sure he's never said anything at all about height. This latest Dallas Morning News article is truly a "bottom story of the day". It merely rehashes what the same reporter wrote back in October with almost zero new information. Steve Brown is infamous for re-running developer marketing pieces every 4-6 months. That's all this one is... Perot looking for office tenants.
  8. No. This train, meaning the TCR train, will have one station in DFW, apparently just outside of the southwest corner of downtown Dallas. Anything beyond that is little more than fantasy. I think you are reading too much into his comment. As he said at the opening of his statement, it was "to let you know how fast the train is" and he was in Tomball when making the comment... so he was just trying to help people visualize and appreciate how fast the train will be. I know it helped me. ;-)

    IAH Vs. DFW

Another correction. I don't know how I keep duplicating parts of the DFW list and dropping airlines, but here's another attempt: IAH: 21 foreign flag/24 total carriers with international service DFW: 13 foreign flag (3 seasonal only)/16 total carriers with international service IAH: 1. Aeromexico 2. Air Canada 3. Air China 4. Air France 5. ANA 6. Avianca 7. British Airways 8. Emirates 9. EVA Air 10. Interjet 11. KLM 12. Korean Air 13. Lufthansa 14. Qatar Airways 15. Scandinavian Airlines 16. Singapore Airlines 17. SonAir * 18. Turkish Airlines 19. VivaAerobus 20. Volaris 21. WestJet (Hat tip to Houstontexasjack) 22. Spirit 23. Sunwing (Seaonal) (Hat tip to Asubrt) 24. United * SonAir is charter only DFW: 1. Aeromexico 2. Air Canada 3. Avianca 4. British Airways 5. Cayman Airways (seasonal only and even then only once-weekly) 6. Emirates 7. Etihad 8. KLM (sesaonal only) 9. Korean 10. Lufthansa 11. Qatar 12. Volaris 13. Westjet (seasonal only) 14. VivaAerobus (starting 2015) 15. American 16. Spirit 17. Sun Country (4 x per week)
  10. That reflects a misunderstanding of the EB-5 visa program. The EB-5 guys don't and can't get visas just by buying themselves a condo. That's not the way the program works.
  11. Nope. It's two hotels. It was the third hotel that bailed -- Hyatt Place IIRC

    IAH Vs. DFW

Corrected to remove duplicate listing of Qatar in DFW's listing (Hat tip to Arch_757): IAH: 21 foreign flag/24 total carriers with international service DFW: 12 foreign flag (3 seasonal only)/15 total carriers with international service IAH: 1. Aeromexico 2. Air Canada 3. Air China 4. Air France 5. ANA 6. Avianca 7. British Airways 8. Emirates 9. EVA Air 10. Interjet 11. KLM 12. Korean Air 13. Lufthansa 14. Qatar Airways 15. Scandinavian Airlines 16. Singapore Airlines 17. SonAir * 18. Turkish Airlines 19. VivaAerobus 20. Volaris 21. WestJet (Hat tip to Houstontexasjack) 22. Spirit 23. Sunwing (Seaonal) (Hat tip to Asubrt) 24. United * SonAir is charter only DFW: 1. Aeromexico 2. Air Canada 3. Avianca 4. British Airways 5. Cayman Airways (seasonal only and even then only once-weekly) 6. Emirates 7. Etihad 8. KLM (sesaonal only) 9. Korean 10. Lufthansa 11. Qatar 12. Westjet (seasonal only) 13. 13. Why would you think that? From the linked article: "Joining the fray along with The Moonshiners, rumored bar from Wooster's Garden owners across the street, Barringer, and next door neighbor Prohibition Supperclub & Bar's forthcoming adjacent beer garden." Prohibition Supper Club is next door to this new bar and apparently is planning an adjacent bar garden. (I wonder where, exactly, Prohibition will be putting a beer garden?) Edit: Found it. They (the Prohibition people) have always planned a beer garden and "food conservatory" in the basement. I had presumed beer garden meant outdoors.
  14. I highly doubt you'd get to 75 if you combined all of the mid-cities, unless they are working with a very short definition of high-rise.
  15. ^ From Ziegler Cooper's description of the building: "The ground level accommodates retail space, the residential lobby, and a pocket park, which can be used for outdoor dining."
  16. My favorite part of this plan is that it appears to have done away with the ridiculous 10-lane surface boulevard that replaced the Pierce Elevated in the earlier version of this plan, which would have made the pedestrian disconnect between downtown and midtown far worse than it currently is.
  17. I didn't think the Hines Building was planned to extend into that skinny bit that extends over to Main. I thought that was going to be a small park space. I'm with Utterly Urban. I don't understand why they are blocking off this whole block? Is something else afoot that we don't know about?
  18. Yes. GRB started out smaller. Additions to both the north and south ends were completed in 2003, increasing its size by a little over 56%.
