  1. Excellent point. And they don't even occupy the entire Kinder Morgan (nee El Paso) Building. My impression is they run a very lean operation.
  2. There is not a name that has yet been thought of that young kids (boys in particular) cannot turn into a point of ridicule. It's more about the personality of the child than it is the name. I would be proud to name a boy Houston. Raise your boy to not be a whiney pipsqueak who invites ridicule and he'll be fine.
  3. No. Both are on 59/69. Earthquest is approximately at 1485. Grand Texas is further north, at 242.
  4. Yes, the parking lot is temporary, to make up for spaces lost when they started their current construction project. They are just now doing the master planning to decide what will be put on that parcel.
  5. Is there any particular reason this building should go up faster than other buildings of comparable height? Will 2929 Weslayan be completed in less than 2 years? (Hint: it was started in November 2012.) 2 1/2 years seems like a pretty normal construction time for a 40-story building.

  7. I think that slightly misstates the situation. I believe Hines is managing the 1111 Travis construction project. I don't think it's quite accurate to say the property is being developed by Hines. Might seem like semantics, but it's a substantive difference. 609 Main is being developed by Hines. They bought the real property; They made the plans for the building; They own the project. 1111 Travis is owned and is being developed by Hilcorp. Hines is managing the development for a contractual fee paid by Hilcorp.
  8. Actually, it should have a pretty good view. The terrace will be above that portion of the Marriott Marquis (the southeast portion of the hotel is only 6 stories tall. No see-through hotel tower required. The terrace is also above and to the west of the front of the GRB, so it won't block the view either. I went to a planning workshop a few weeks back. They've actually been thinking this whole hotel/office building/parking garage/GRB redevelopment thing through pretty carefully.
  9. I forgot to include the links in my earlier post. http://houston.culturemap.com/news/fashion/07-11-13-is-willowbrook-mall-becoming-a-fashionista-destination-new-stores-are-raising-the-bar/ http://impactnews.com/houston-metro/cy-fair/bar-louie-coming-to-willowbrook-area/
  10. I don't have hard numbers either, but unlike Beaumont and College Station, Galveston is part of the Houston metropolitan area. By definition, therefore, there is significantly more commuting back and forth between Galveston/Houston as compared to Beaumont or College Station.
  11. Another pointless trolling post by H-town Man. The world is not all black and white; either-or. One can believe caution is in order regarding expectations for a new building without being required to declare that it absolutely will not be built.
  12. Your unseemly little victory celebration is a tad premature. Note that your "publicly known to be starting construction in several weeks" has already, by this announcement, turned into a minimum of 5 weeks. This article tells us nothing more than that they are still marketing the space and trying to find some tenants to sign on. It's a marketing press release and nothing more. The headline should have been "Crescent Delays Construction of 6 Houston Center - Still Looking for Tenants". Sometimes banners and, indeed ground-breakings, don't indicate anything (other than that a building is being marketed). To clarify again, 6 Houston Center may well be built. They may even break ground in 30-60 days. They may even start construction in that same 30-60 day window. I hope it happens. But I wouldn't bet any of my money on it. So far, all we've seen is marketing and, by their own admission, unsuccessful marketing at that.
  13. Not sure what your point is. Grocers Supply has already selected their new location. Pinto Business Park on the southwest corner of Beltway 8 and Interstate 45 North.
  14. Not to mention, replacing the elevated freeway with an at-surface multi-lane "parkway" will actually decrease connectivity, not increase it.
  15. I don't think I-10 East has ever been officially renamed "Baytown-East Freeway."
  16. How many more people do you think will move into the Loop over the next 6 years? Actually, since we don't really know how many people currently live in the Loop, let's make that, "How many people do you think will have moved into the Loop between the 2010 and 2020 censuses? (BTW, thanks for Link. Pretty interesting stuff.)
  17. You are misreporting the reasons Ritz left Houston. The Ritz-Carlton parent company simultaneously terminated its management contract with the owners of four hotels in Houston, New York, Washington and Aspen, Colo. The properties are owned by four separate partnerships represented by Al Anwa USA Inc. They pulled their flag over contractual disputes with the Saudi Sheik who owned all four of those hotels. There was no indication that the hotel was not performing well.
  18. So I guess because they are in business we are to assume, ipso facto, that they are trying to attract top talent. In some sense I suppose every business at least thinks it is "trying to attract top talent." The problem is, there is scant evidence of any significant commitment to such an endeavor on the part of the Chronicle. And more importantly for this city that is saddled with an embarrassment of a newspaper, even if they are in some way "trying to attract top talent", they have clearly been unable to get the job done.
