  1. The street parking meter is gone on that block too, and they have confusing "Emergency - No Parking" signs. Parked there Saturday and didn't get towed or ticketed, but it seems like street parking might be about to be blocked off for construction as well.
  2. ^ Agreed. I'm not crazy about the idea of the shrunken dome part of it either. "Honey, I shrunk the Astrodome."
  3. So much hate... After you finish off the Rodeo and the Texans, maybe you can aim to put the Houston Endowment out of business. And then maybe the Brown Foundation.
  4. Again, that's worked out really well, hasn't it? What has kept anyone from "adequately exploring" alternative uses? Where are the legitimate and realistic alternative proposals?
  5. It says nothing. As a publicly-held company, they are obliged to "consider" an offer.
  6. Because leaving it alone and letting the taxpayers figure it out has worked out so well??? ;-) Sheesh people, it's just a proposal. It's not as if anyone is making demands that this be done and that it be done exactly this way.
  7. I'll bet Hines will be relieved to get this news. ;-)
  8. IF it has to come down, this is the best plan I've seen yet for utilizing the space.
  9. No one was suckered. The sale of naming rights was part of the financing package from day one.
  10. Cool pic! Thanks for posting, mlyoung
  11. Those are on the Rusk/Capitol/Crawford/LaBranch block. Naviguessor is referring to the Rusk/Capitol/Crawford/Avenida de las Americas block.
  12. Ya know, Houston made it to the final 4 US cities in the competition for the 2012 bid; a good deal further in the selection process than Dallas has ever gotten.
  13. I think there will be direct connector ramps going from I-10 to 290, bypassing the West Loop. See http://www.my290.com/images/documents/feis/us290gschmortho_opt4_rev_ovrl.pdf
  14. Any chance this is where Rockefeller's is relocating?
  15. I count 50 stories on top of a 3 story pedestal for a total of 53 stories. Is that what we had with the earlier renderings? I too would love to see it grow to at least 850 feet.
  16. They are not 150 meters. But they are clearly skyscrapers. I have no idea where that 150 meter definition came from.
  17. Sorry, but no. As compared to what was there before (even taking into consideration that it had a Domino's at street level, and a Christian Science Reading Room) there is just no disadvantage to the new Marriott.
  18. Corgan's website has some nice renderings of the Hobby International terminal.
  19. According to the Master Plan, the international arrivals concourse currently under construction can be expanded to a total of 12 gates. The wing on the opposite side of the terminal is beyond the master plan time horizon (i.e., beyond 2030) and there is no indication that it is planned to be for an international concourse (but as it is beyond the master plan horizon, they are probably not even attempting to identify it as either international or domestic). Further info from the Master Plan: They anticipate needing 10 international arrival gates by 2020, and 12 by 2030.
  20. There's a pedestrian bridge right there at Jackson Hill. It's a little hard to imagine how they would get one much closer to this development, given the Waugh/Memorial intersection.
  21. According to Metro Board member Christof Spieler, "Rail to Hobby and IAH is still in the long term plan, though, given the uncertainties of funding, there’s no way anyone can give a date."
  22. Exactly. It's really pretty irrelevant to the rest of Houston whether this community will be gated or not gated.
