  1. It was indeed flooded during Allison and permanently closed shortly after. I think we can give Editor the "Least Reliable Witness Award". https://www.houstonpress.com/best-of/2002/people-and-places/best-lost-landmark-6604321 https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/stories/2001/12/24/story3.html
  2. I presume you are referring to this language in the Chron article: "That includes some right of way along the freeway on the border of Memorial Park." That may or may not mean they plan to take land from Memorial Park. I read "on the border of" to mean "on the border", not across the border. Further, (1) This is a Chronicle article so the chance of it being fully accurate are less than 100%. (2) The final plans are not yet done. I doubt Metro even knows for sure if they would need land from Memorial Park, and I am quite certain they will do everything possible to avoid such. Memorial Park is pretty much considered untouchable.
  3. What makes you think it would take land from Memorial Park?
  4. Just got back from Post and their H-Town Market. Those who follow Editor will not be surprised to learn that he wildly misrepresented the variety of vendors.
  5. I think Scorpion was another name for Frost Town. I don't think Frost Town was located where Clayton Homes were. I think it was a little further west. I believe there is a historical marker in James Bute Park.
  6. Would love to see that. Any chance you can post a picture or pdf of the postcard?
  7. It's clearly a work in progress. They built spaces up there that could accommodate such activities.
  8. That's probably quite old. White Oak did the 2012 Master Plan for Tranquillity Park, which, as I understand it, was incorporated into the Theater District Master Plan. FWIW, the 2012 Master Plan retains the fountain stacks. But that may have been before the apparent (rumored?) structural issues.
  9. There are clearly ways for large urban churches to accommodate mid-week visitors without having a full-block parking lot across the street from their front door. Christ Church Cathedral, also in downtown Houston manages. Again, do they really regularly need 144 spaces midweek? I just watched the "announcement" of this project the priest made from the pulpit a couple months back. They are almost as disingenuous as the Houston Endowment was in their moral posturing about their new HQ building. They actually said this is their contribution to the ongoing revitalization and beautification of this end of downtown Houston.
  10. Where do such people park now? How many spaces do they realistically need for midweek services? In any event, they may need parking, but they don't need surface parking. They aren't the only cathedral in downtown that has midweek parking needs...
  11. Yeah, they could have created a lovely green space/plaza fronting the Cathedral, and even included some parking. Instead they seem to be going ahead with an asphalt lot with a small corner "plaza" (if the renderings are any indication, it is not even worthy of the title "plaza". Woo-Hoo! They are using 1/10th of the block for their pathetic little plaza. Just imagine the "events" they will be able to hold in that space. . It's an insult to the late Archbishop. Members/Attendees, please give them feedback on their funding requests.
  12. I don't recall anyone blaming Harvey with regard to the Tranquility Park fountains.
  13. I-45 and I-69 will be routed over most of that land, eliminating the big curve.
  14. Only if one is intent on being embarrassed by everything Houston (as so many HAIFers and Houstonians generally seem to be. There must be something in the water, or maybe it's too many years of reading the chronicle. As cspwal mentioned, IAH also has a modern train inside security, similar to ATL, but we also have the train outside security, something ATL lacks (they offer a shuttle BUS). If anyone should be embarrassed, it's Atlantans.
  15. Another morning walk, another amendment: The Cotswold fountains at Congress and Main are now both working. Also, the fountain that was once in the entry plaza of the Humble Oil Building hotels, seems to have been removed some time ago. So the count stands at 36 downtown fountains working. 6 not working. Of the 12 existing Cotswold fountains, 8 are working, 4 not working. WORKING: Market Square 1 (as you mentioned) Market Square (Cotswold #12) Market Square (Cotswold #3) Smith (as you mentioned) Sam Houston Park Scanlan fountain Sam Houston Park Neuhaus fountain (I presume one of these is what you were referencing by "Heritage Park") Houston Center Discovery Green Misttree Discovery Green splash pad Hermann Square Main Street Square 1 Main Street Square 2 Downtown Aquarium water table Downtown Aquarium waterwall Downtown Aquarium marlin fountain Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza 1100 Louisiana Root Memorial Square Christ Church Cathedral Jones Hall Hess Tower Courthouse Square - Family Law Center Green Street 1 Green Street 2 Green Street 3 Avenida Houston Catalyst Harmonica Man Park - Brazos and Pease George Bush Monument POST roof park Cotswold #10 - Prairie @ Travis Cotswold #8 - Preston @ Crawford Cotswold #6 - 1100 block of Preston (between Fannin & San Jacinto) Cotswold #9 - Prairie @ Travis Cotswold #11 - Congress @ Main Cotswold #12 - Congress @ Main NOT WORKING: Sesquicentennial Park Tranquility Park Cotswold #2 Cotswold # 4 (Preston @ Main) Cotswold #5 (Preston @ Main) Cotswold #7 (Preston @ Caroline)
  16. Greater Houston Partnership did not rebrand itself as Houston First. They are two completely separate organizations. https://houston.org/ https://www.houstonfirst.com/
  17. They are working on a complete replacement, last I heard. Yeah, I've been curious about the plans for the soon-to-be vacant space in the Terminal D building.
  18. Yes, that's the name of the pre-security inter-terminal train.
  19. Slides from today's update to City Council Economic Development Committee: https://www.houstontx.gov/council/committees/econdev/20230621/ITRP-Update.pdf In another presentation today, a rough timeline for completion of major airport projects was mentioned: ITRP (International terminal projects) - CY 2024 Major Projects (7-gate expansion and other Southwest projects at Hobby; Skyway, Subway and a Solar farm at Bush) - CY 2027 DTRP (Terminal A Expansion; Terminal D East Pier) - CY 2031 United Rebuild of Terminal B - CY 2027
  20. Sounds interesting. Can you provide a link? Also, I'd love to learn more about the conversions of parking to other uses, but have come up empty in my web searches. Could you provide any additional information please, or links? Re: 900 N Michigan, I found that they converted 8 floors of office to additional residential, but can't find anything about converting parking to other uses.
