  1. ^ Hmmmm, that name seems encouraging. Also somewhat encouraging is that they bought it just 3 years ago...
  2. Perfect. Or I should say almost perfect. It needs to go taller. At least 60 floors. Throw in another hotel if necessary. ;-) Am I just being greedy?
  3. Why would two 20's and a 10 produce more people walking around on the street than one 50? I guess it might disperse the same number of people over an additional two blocks, so to that extent a minor +, but still the same number of people walking around on the street, no?
  4. Regarding the rather constant complaint about the drive from Bush Airport to downtown Houston: 1. I-45 is far better than it used to be. 59/69 is also better than it used to be. 2. It's not as though there are significantly more-appealing drives from many other cities' airports to their downtowns. Where are all of these glamorous and beautiful airport-to-downtown drives that I have apparently been missing out on?
  5. Pretty much confirms we should expect another airline to start flying an A380 into Bush Airport by the end of this year.
  6. I too would love to see a 60+ story condo tower go up in Houston (specifically downtown Houston). But let's not exaggerate the number of 50-60 story residential buildings around the nation (let alone supertalls). Outside of NYC, Chicago and Miami, there really are very few (and outside of NYC and Chicago I don't think there are any supertall residentials). Yes, Austin has one. But only one. Yes, Charlotte has one. But only one (and it barely makes the cut, being only 50 stories.) Here is a complete (I think) list of US Metro areas that have one or more 50+ story residential buildings (many are buildings that only include residential along with other uses, e.g., hotel): NYC Chicago Miami LA (one, 54 stories and it's primarily hotel.) San Francisco (2) Atlanta (1, hotel with condos) Las Vegas (4) Austin (1) Charlotte (1) A little more high-rise residential context in connection with the comparisons to Austin and Charlotte: Austin has 13 high-rise residentials (roughly 15+ stories or 180+ feet) Charlotte has 6 Houston has 53
  7. I wonder if the structure was built as planned; I.e., could they add the office tower structure on top some day?
  8. ^ UT has several medical schools. In addition to UTMB, there are: University of Texas Medical School at Houston University of Texas Southwestern Medical School (Dallas) University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio In addition to the new school in Austin, they are also establishing a new medical school in the Rio Grande Valley
  9. That is a very unusual project. I keep hoping they have secretly changed their plans and are now refurbishing it for residential use rather than tearing it down.
  10. OxyChem will be part of the company that is going to be headquartered in "Houston". OxyChem itself is currently headquartered in Dallas. Could we have more good news heading our way, i.e., might they also be relocating OxyChem headquarters to the Houston area?
  11. Maybe something like this? and this?
  12. Using the 500 Crawford as the model, 21 stories actually looks pretty close for 580 units on one block. 500 Crawford will house 397 units on 7 floors covering 2 full blocks plus the street/sidewalk right of way between the 2 blocks, so approximately 2.2 full blocks. 397/15.4 full block floors = 25.8 units per floor per block. 580/25.8 = 22.5 floors.
  13. It has been redone into condos. The rebuild was completed and people started moving in to the building in 2002. There are 122 condominiums in the building, plus a 2-story penthouse. As of February 2010, 69 had been sold and 25 had been leased.
  14. I noticed that too and wondered the same thing. Is this a new update or have they failed to update it from the original announced height and square footage? EDIT: The previous version of this development map had it listed as 47 stories and 1 Million square feet. Hines and Colvill websites still say it's 48 stories and 1,000,000 + square feet. There appears to be a linkage problem that brings up a prior version of Colvill's 609 Main at Texas website. If you do a Google search for 609 Main, then click on the first result (Colvill's 609 Main website, then click on "Click to Enter". This takes you to a page that says the building is 41 stories and 815,000 square feet (the old numbers). But then when you try to click further into the site, it takes you to the updated page saying the building is 48 stories, 1 million square feet. I suspect someone who updates the downtown development map did a Google search and posted the old numbers based on that initial result.
  15. I think you are approximately correct about City View Lofts. They certainly opened after the 2010 census. As to Commerce Towers, if there was any "gradual process" it was purely marketing. The units were available if only they had been able to find buyers. (Personally, I think they suffered from weak design and very bad marketing, but that's for another conversation.)
  16. ^ Thanks for posting. Just a couple notes: -- Those numbers are for the 1st half of Metro's fiscal year (October-March), not first quarter. -- The average weekday ridership for the 6 month period was 40,442 -- The average weekday ridership for the first 3 months of CY 2014 were: January, 2014: 41,780 February, 2014: 43,181 March, 2014: 42,722 Total Rail Ridership (compared to 2013) was up 10.9% in January, 11.3% in February, and 16.7% in March.
  17. ^ Yes, and maybe one day Atlanta will have an intermodal passenger terminal similar to the one being fantasized about in this thread. ;-)
  18. ^ Let's not be lettin' some inconvenient facts get in the way of some good ol' hatin' on Houston.
  19. Bush AIrport passenger traffic statistics for the first 2 months of 2014: Total traffic: 6,117,983, up 2.7% from 2013. Domestic: 4,638,680, up 0.5% from 2013. International: 1,479,303, up 1.1% from 2013.
