Good point. But why not a route more-or-less straight beween DFW and Houston... as you said, that's the city pair that will likely carry the most traffic, by far. Then put in a slightly curving T running from SA through Austin, MAYBE as far as Killeen/Temple and then over to meet up with the DFW-Houston route somewhere around College Station.

Wow. That's kind of scary. Acknowledging that builder's piers can sink; is that at all common? In short, is it worth looking for a home with builder's piers (and possibly paying more for them?)

But there are problems with the per capita statistics as well. They are based on the number of people residing in an area. Busy commercial areas, such as Downtown, Uptown, TMC, Greenway etc. have many thousands of non-resident people (and cars) in them every day, so the per capita statistics skew against all of those districts. -
Isn't there a fourth kind of house in Houston, to-wit: houses that were built with piers (rather than just a slab)? Or does that not take care of the problem?

Did the Chron have it wrong when they said: "The company owns about 9 acres near Richmond and Post Oak that it acquired for $34 million. The land is now under contract to another buyer for $57.5 million."? -
Well, it's attached to the Hilton by skywalk and that's where the Hilton guests park, not in the Toyota Center garage. I've stayed there several times.

There you go again, Musicman. Any chance you have a source for that claim? According to the report done by ABC13: "You know how much money the Toyota garage has lost since it opened in 2003? We found it lost $1.2 million." That's right, a total of $1.2 million over the entire 4-year life of the garage, not the $1.5 million per month you would have us believe (which would have added up to $72 million over the 4-year life). What the heck, you were only off by a factor of 60. Well done. ;-)

Even IF you could actually add a foot of space at each end (and I believe a careful look at the cars will prove that NOT to be the case), it seems like you'd be packing them awfully tight to squeeze an addition 8 people into that additional space. ;-)

Zero. Memebag seems to be having a little trouble with geometry. The operator already sits in the space being discussed. The only thing added by Memebag's flat-front proposal would be a vertical (rather than inclined) windshield and dead air space in front of the operator.

Speaking of the Savoy, I just ran across this little tidbit (which I don't think has been reported here before; if it has I apologize): "The Savoy Hotel, located in the heart of the CBD, is under contract by an undisclosed buyer for $7 million. Expectations are for a condominium renovation." (Quoted from Stream Realty's report) -
I don't think any decisions have been made about the IAH service.

See the post #395 by Houston-Development No. There are no actual renderings of the proposed 55-story apartment building. The drawings that have appeared are just placeholders in the BLVD Place renderings. -

Once again, the garage south of Houston Pavilions (on the Main-Fannin-Clay-Polk block) is controlled by Houston Pavilions under a long-term lease. I guess the owner of the building is trying to sell it, but that will not change it's effective control and use by and for Houston Pavilions. While they did not "buy" it, they did take control of it under a long-term lease. Apparently it would not work for parking for the apartments (probably not close enough, or maybe it just isn't big enough to provide parking for both the retail/office/entertainment elements and the residential component) Not so much... Any buyer of this parking garage will take it subject to Houston Pavilions' long-term lease. So the buyer will basically not be able to do anything to it at all, except as allowed by the lease. -
Your first picture looked like a Metro rail car with a different paint scheme. The second was pretty cool looking. The third (the boxy one) looked like a rental car shuttle bus.

Yes, you are quite right, as to the U-Line-> Uptown Line. I, of course, was only speaking of the one particular intersection between the SE Line and the Red Line in the middle of downtown Houston. But to achieve maximum flexibility I wouldn't be surprised if they build all of the intersections to allow for such movements back and forth, even if they don't plan to run interline service involving a particular intersection. On the other hand, I'm not sure they could even make the turns at a downtown intersection...
