  1. I come up with 32nd tallest (counting Pennzoil as two buildings), just after Pennzoil I and II and in front of Two Allen Center (we haven't had a Devon Energy Tower in Houston for about ten years).
  2. About six months in, I thought an update might be in order. See updates in blue, above.
  3. The inner Katy BRT was part of MetroNext from the very first sets of proposed sets of projects.
  4. They were also able to get it done faster because there were no federal funds involved.
  5. LOL She certainly had a hand in it and bears responsibility.
  6. Not sure why HCC would have interest in adjoining property. The adjoining HCC property is their Admin HQ, not a campus and it doesn't appear they are cramped for space or anticipate being cramped for space, since they lease out a good chunk of the property. And FWIW, it's about a 5 minute walk to the Ensemble/HCC Red Line Station.
  7. But it bears repeating: Pete Buttigieg. Sheila Jackson Lee. Joe Biden.
  8. I don't know. You've been attending all these meetings... You tell us. ;-) I can find nothing that says the Management District has been reconstituted. Perhaps you're thinking of the Montrose TIRZ? FWIW, here's a list of Neartown's Member Organizations (notice no Montrose Management District): Audubon Place Association Avondale Association Castle Court Neighborhood Association Cherryhurst Civic Association East Montrose Civic Association First Montrose Commons Neighborhood Association Hyde Park Civic Association Lancaster Place Civic Association Mandell Place Civic Association North Montrose Civic Association Park Civic Association (no website) Richwood Place Civic Association Roseland Estates Civic Association (no website) Vermont Commons Civic Association WAMM Civic Association Westmoreland Civic Association Winlow Place Civic Club
  9. There are actually three light rail crossings affected by the NHHIP. I suspect there will be enough flexibility in the construction schedule that the Red Line crossing under/over Southwest Freeway will be able to be operational during the World Cup. (I don't think anyone anticipates that the Red Line will be shut down for the entire construction period.) The green/purple crossing under/over I-69/I-45 on the east side, is, sadly, now not expected to be under construction until 2027 (see Pete Buttigieg et al). The red line crossing of I-10, while not as problematic if not available for the World Cup, can probably be easily scheduled around it if need be.
  10. Well the good news is, construction at Bush should be completed well before the World Cup. The Katy BRT Line is absolutely higher on their priority list than the extension of the Rail to Hobby and I don't see that changing. Given the reality of the hoops and hurdles that have to be jumped through and over to get federal funding, even if they switched priorities today, we wouldn't be able to have rail to Hobby in time for the World Cup. Sadly, even though it is among Metro's highest priorities and they have been working on it for some time, I don't think the Inner Katy BRT is even expected to be operational by 2026.
  11. That would be awesome. But given that federal money would have to be involved, there is pretty much zero chance of either happening before 2026. BRT to IAH is tied in to NHHIP and the Federal Government in its infinite wisdom, has put a seemingly indefinite hold on that. After taking this much time, it's probably taking the Feds even longer to come up with some kind of face-saving exit ramp.
  12. Hmmm... very interesting, and odd. I wonder what their thinking is
  13. That section should be well into construction, but because of the plodding, incompetent federal government, construction is still apparently a year or more away. 14. This development seems kinda weird. As mentioned above, the site has been cleared and they've started hauling out dirt, but as far as I can tell, no official announcement of the planned building has ever been made by the developer. The only announcement by any element of the mixed-use is the news release by the hotel company posted above. I wonder if the hotel company jumped the gun...
  15. April 29, 2022 The management district that maintained the lights was shut down a few years ago, so there is no one currently maintaining the lights. In other words when one goes out, there is no one to replace or repair it. Lance Gandy IALD, LC, IES, Assoc. 16. Details not known yet, but the reports indicate maybe 5 or 6 matches for Houston.
  17. Good summary. Regarding No. 1, it would seem they could arrange for pre-approval to make that option available in the case of an approaching hurricane.
  18. In reality, I don't think there is a company "running the lights." I recently contacted the company that installed the lights. They told me that the Montrose Management District was responsible for running and maintaining the lights (and paid for their installation). Sadly, the Montrose Management District no longer exists. So no one is "running the lights." The City needs to get this figured out and, as suggested above, either turn them off or get them fixed. As is, they are embarrassing.
  19. Exactly. I had typed out a response saying pretty much exactly that; I'm not sure what became of it. ;-) In addition to it being a lame criteria, I'm pretty sure they got it wrong. If you do the math, it tells you that we have about 6.9 bike trails. I have no idea how they came up with that number... Also, just counting number of bike shops per capita seems fairly lame and I'm curious about how they came up with their "bikeability" score. They don't give any clue about their methodology for that one (and it's a pretty large part of the overall score).
  20. For the purposes of the comparison of which city has which hotel flags, the only upshot of the situation is that Dallas will no longer have a Four Seasons Hotel.
  21. Interesting. For context, the 2022 anytimeestimate.com study referenced by Amalgam was a study of the 50 largest cities in the U.S.
  22. I suspect the other cities’ police departments numbers also include non-patrol functions. FWIW, no one suggested a comparison based on total employees.
  23. Interesting. The parcel changed hands last October - now owned by Neway Hospitality.
