  1. How does it compare to those before they were replaced and how does it compare to other bridges that were not replaced?
  2. That actually looks quite elevated above the channel and very long.
  3. One presumes the Scott Street bridge was already high enough and long enough as to not be causing any problems.
  4. Read the article indeed: "What will happen to these businesses with hundreds of investors who just received default notices? In the short term, probably nothing. “Issuing these notices is a process point. It’s meant to let investors and the businesses know that we are monitoring the payments,” Chu said. “Based on the investment documents, our job is to stay on top of it. Businesses have a couple of months to catch up before they are in default of their obligations, but that is not to say that we’re enforcing that immediately. That’s not the goal. The goal is to find a long-term path for the business to be successful and for investors to get their payments.”"
  5. A Notice of Default is not the same as foreclosure. I don't see any indication whatsoever that the investors/lenders are forcing these businesses into bankruptcy and not exploring the possibility of loan workouts and renegotiation of terms.
  6. It will be interesting to see how the costs stack up. Not so sure the below-grade will be more expensive than the Elevated concept. They would have to acquire additional real estate for the elevated concept, plus a lot of structure to be built with the two large bus ramps plus the structure with bus boarding stations on the second level.
  7. The space behind the brown paper (In Texas Tower) is probably Etta (Italian restaurant from Chicago), see Texas Tower thread. The space across the street from Frank's was discussed in the One Market Square thread some months ago:
  8. Apparently the installer indeed does not have a maintenance contract with the city (or with anyone else). The bridge lighting issue is a side effect of the problems with the Montrose Management District, which was disbanded several years ago. Montrose Management District was responsible for the lighting, including its maintenance. Montrose Management no longer exists, so there is no one to maintain the lighting.
  9. Very nice. Thanks for posting. I like the below-grade concept best.
  10. Source? I can find no evidence that the two families were related or were ever in business together. I think the 1988 sale of Beall's to the newly-formed Specialty Retailers Inc was caused at least in part by a family split/argument. In any event, Beall's (Texas) was founded in Henderson, Texas in 1923. The company (not just it's real and intellectual property) was sold to Speciality Retailers who also purchased Houston-based Palais Royal at the same time and HQ was moved to Houston. Some years later they acquired Stage Stores and changed the corporate name to Stage Stores. As you said, Beall's (Florida) bought the IP and other assets out of bankruptcy.
  11. I didn't get any pictures but the remodel/refurbishment of the existing Terminal D concourse is very much underway. They've started from the west end, where the flooring and ceilings have been removed from the areas of Gates 1 - around 6. Appears they must be doing the work overnight and then cleaning up so the gates can be used during the day.
  12. Do we have any indication whatsoever as to what their plans might be?
  13. Cool. Living Spaces has been expanding in this part of the country (Texas/Oklahoma) and it appears to be a pretty good furniture store. To clarify, it is not "Drew and Jonathan's" store, and Drew and Jonathan almost certainly did not lease or purchase the real property here. The Property Brothers merely have a line of home furnishings sold by the stores.
  14. Good indeed, but hardly news. This information has been previously shared in this very thread; more than once, IIRC.

  16. FYI, I was in no way challenging or arguing with your assertion, Merely looking for more information. As your response suggests, it's a little difficult to find good information to compare. (However, after reviewing the data, one might fairly quibble with your "blow us out of the water" characterization.) The best (and only one that compares similar data) seems to be the numbers you quoted from GHP, which appear to be from the US Census Bureau circa 2009-2013, and counts the number of languages spoken in homes. (NYC: 192. LA: 185. Houston: 145) I counted NYC: 193. LA: 186. and Houston: 148 in the linked census spreadsheet. https://www.census.gov/data/tables/2013/demo/2009-2013-lang-tables.html
  17. Curious about this... can you provide a source?
  18. In fairness, the OP also said there are no benefits to the downtown reroute, so taken as a whole, all the benefits accrue to Woodlanders driving alone to downtown and there are no benefits. In any event, all the statements were ignorant and false. For starters, the vast majority of the added capacity north of downtown is in HOV/transit lanes. That, by definition, benefits people other than those driving with one person in the car, and again, by definition, does not benefit those single occupant vehicle drivers.
  19. We've been over this before, Samagon. The $27 Million is over and above the costs of buying out the current buildings and moving and compensating the current residents.
