  1. Highly doubtful. Temenos Place owns that facility at 1703 Gray and it's pretty new. It appears they have probably acquired the adjacent property at 1711 Gray and plan to add facilities on that parcel.
  2. I think they are a long ways from having made any decisions about the end-point, stops, and connecting points for the IAH BRT. From the MetroNext website: "NOTE: During the course of the implementation of METRONext, exact routes of the METRORapid and METRORail connections shown will only be decided and finalized after an extensive community involvement process."
  3. No. Mid-2017. I saw they mentioned 2015 in that video (later they refer to 2017). I suspect 2015 is when they started the overall project (i.e., started redevelopment of the Glassell)
  4. Just to fill in a little additional information gleaned from the Downtown TIRZ meeting: It sounds like Phoenix has the building under contract, but has not yet closed on it (as of mid-August). They are working with consultants etc to try to come up with best mix of units/pricing. The initial plan as shown above was mostly micro and studio units and a mix of affordable and market rate. They are looking at increasing the number of 1 bedroom units and also possibly increasing the percentage of affordable units. They are aiming to minimize the amount of "ask" from public bodies, hoping to not ask for any (other than HUD financing based on affordable housing and Oppportuniy Zone tax benefits). Yes, it is an Opportunity Zone project. (Contrary to the implication above, just being in an Opportunity Zone does not make a project an Opportunity Zone project; but this one is.) They are definitely addressing the student housing market. They specifically talked about it being an ideal location to provide housing for students at multiple area universities (UH-D, UH, Rice, TSU, St Thomas), Medical Center employees, downtown employees, including hotel employees...
  5. they still have to get access to gates and if United was squatting on them ... I doubt United has released any gates as a result of COVID. Have any other airlines left Terminal A or permanently reduced service?
  6. i know they will fly into terminal A. But we have been told that American and others have trouble finding a gate to dock their planes at Terminal A because United is squatting on the gates and blocking growth of the other airlines. If American and Alaska can’t figure out how to work around United’s alleged blockade, how is Southwest going to do it?
  7. As I mentioned above, prior to Southwest's announcement, the airport system has been proceeding with plans to add gates to Terminal A. They have looked at four alternative expansion scenarios. -North Concourse Extension, 4 gates $110 Million -Northwest Pier, 8 gates $255 Million -West Pier, 4 gates $80 Million -South Concourse Extensions, 4 gates $66 MIllion It looks like South Concourse Extension is the most likely to happen first.
  8. Yes, I'm aware of the fact that United has directly paid for many of the additions and improvements they have made to Bush Airport. They also have full control of their terminals. Neither is the case for any non-hub carrier and it is not the case that non-hub carriers usually directly pay for airport improvements or additions, either in Houston or elsewhere.
  9. Hey guys, how is Southwest going to provide service to IAH when United is blocking growth of other airlines and keeping American from getting its planes to the terminal?
  10. Relax. Development, especially at this scale, takes time. What "pending agreements with the city" are you referring to?
  11. The airport system is actually planning to expand Terminal A by a few gates, but of course that won't be ready in time for Southwest to start service in early 2021.
  12. I think Houston's approach is actually pretty standard. Property owners are responsible for sidewalks. Where Houston has differed (and failed, especially in the past), is in imposing and enforcing sidewalk requirements.
  13. It's going to be very interesting to see what gate(s) Southwest uses at Bush Airport. We were told in another thread that there is no room in Terminal A for additional flights because United is hoarding the gates to the point that other airlines cannot find a place to dock. Will be interesting to see how Southwest manages to find a gate.
  14. Not international, but Southwest Airlines just announced they are returning to Bush Intercontinental early next year.
  15. The "Hanging Tree" and the stories/legends about it only relates to hangings, not lynchings (there is a very important difference). None of the four known Harris County lynchings took place in the vicinity of the Hanging Tree.
  16. I would imagine maybe all lynchings but with a focus on particular lynchings that occurred in Houston. IIRC, the article mentioned four lynchings?
  17. Seems like a bad example of that, considering IT DIDN'T PASS AND IS NOT HAPPENING!
  18. ANA resumes Houston to Tokyo (Haneda) service.
  19. Maybe it's "under contract" with Amcal.
  20. Can you give us any details? What safety measures had been proposed and which are not going to be incorporated? Did the council member share the reasons for not incorporating the safety measures?
  21. Nothing real precise, but it is definitely ongoing and apparently moving along nicely. I saw a comment by one airport official at a city council committee meeting that suggested the whole project is moving along ahead of schedule. I think they are able to get some things does a little faster because of the reduced activity at the airport due to COVID. My understanding is that we should start seeing visible construction activity before the end of the year.
  22. Perhaps blocky, but it really doesn't seem imposing at all from street level. It looks quite large from above, but doesn't seem that large from the street/sidewalk. By the way, yes, the lights behind the glad tubes are on (at least they are this evening).
