aachor
It's wild to think about what this whole area is going to be like in a few years. When I first moved to Houston in 2016, OST west of Almeda was mostly just parking lots. In a few years, this stretch between Cambridge and Greenbriar will have been completely transformed. Hopefully at some point the city can get it's act together and re-pave OST. It was rough in 2016 and since then it's only gotten worse.

I don't know how to link a specific project, but the TxDOT project tracker shows an upcoming overlay project in the next few years: https://apps3.txdot.gov/apps-cq/project_tracker/ Totally agree on the transformation, it's times like this I really enjoy streetview 3

Thanks! Looking at it, it seems that they're aiming for 2/10/2025 for the project to be ready to bid. So maybe sometime in 2026 for the resurface? It's going to be in real rough shape by then, and I would guess that they're going to have to replace and rebase sections. 1

hindesky
The fact that this Proposed FAA Obstruction Permit states crawler cranes makes me think the parking garage will be a precast structure. https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external/searchAction.jsp?action=displayOECase&oeCaseID=624064213&row=199 https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external/searchAction.jsp?action=displayOECase&oeCaseID=624064211&row=0 Edited July 2 by hindesky

bobruss
Its interesting to see the pace of different projects in the city. This one is going up really fast at an impressive rate of speed, while the Hines project Greens on Allen Parkway is moving at the pace of sloths. I know one is funded by the state for research to help stop cancer, while the other is funded by the world's largest funeral home. Is there a correlation? 1
hindesky
2 hours ago, bobruss said: This one is going up really fast at an impressive rate of speed, while the Hines project Greens on Allen Parkway is moving at the pace of sloths. Project Green is undergoing stormwater improvements to the blocks surrounding the future build of the new SCI HQ. This is being done and paid for by the Downtown TIRZ to help alleviate future flooding in the area. Once that is finished Harvey Builders plans on starting the actual building of the HQ in the 4th Q of 2024. Hines is probably involved because they will purchase or already have the old SCI building and associated parking garage. This purchase will help SCI afford their new HQ. What Hines has in mind is up for speculation. 🤷♂️
