SpaceAge
I drove by this house yesterday for the first time. It is still standing. It does not look all that bad compared to others around there. The one on the corner has the entire rear wall leaning and looks separated at the base. 2111 has a washing machine in middle of front porch as if being moved. The rest of the place is tidy with a truck parked at rear. This house should be saved to maintain the context of this historic area. This seems to be one of the oldest intact neighborhoods in Houston. Has anyone contacted Mary Kay's son about saving it?
dbigtex56
Maybe if someone could kick Radar, the Channel 2 Weather Dog, off the air for a moment, and bring this to peoples' attention...
SpaceAge
I called Mary Kay's son, Richard Rogers, today and left word with his assistant about the house. She seemed interested. I hope the info about the house is correct. I would hate to waste his time.
SixthWardFan
The Mary Kay Ash House was recently sold to a nice young couple who have started plans to restore the house. They will be restoring some of the Colonial Revival details that were pulled off and sold by a previous tenant to pay rent.

SpaceAge
Richard Rogers, Mary Kay's son and Chairman & CEO of Mary Kay, Incorporated has agreed to donate $20,000 to the Old Sixth Ward Neighborhood. The donation will fund construction of a neighborhood entrance feature. This tie to the Mary Kay family is important on several levels perhaps most importantly since Mary Kay, Inc. is an impressive organization with 2007 wholesale volume estimated at $2.4 billion. Portrait of Mary Kay Ash and her son Richard Rogers located in the Mary Kay Museum

Heights2Bastrop
Mary Kay was one of many reknowned Reagan alumni. She would never tell her age, but she graduated with Racehorse Haynes, so it was easy to figure out.
