Nate99
It's interesting that it took ~30 years for the area around the massive GRB to fit the role as an area to host people/events. When it was built, that end of DT was a wasteland. Anyone thinking of bringing conventioneers to the area had to have been discount shopping. The whole area looks the part now.

Popular Post Nole23
"2015 a Record Year for Houston in Convention Sales, Web and Tourism HOUSTON (January 27, 2016) – Houston First Corporation booked a record number of room nights tied to conventions and meetings last year, just as the organization reached new heights in website visitation and tourism-related room nights. The record successes came in the first full year of the alignment between Houston First and the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, which combined their efforts in July 2014 to gain additional resources and create a single clear voice for the city under the brand Visit Houston. The Destination Sales team booked 732,967 room nights for future meetings in 2015, a 29% increase over the 569,440 nights booked in 2014 and the largest number ever logged by the organization. S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and math), medical and education industry meetings led the increase. Ric Campo, chairman of the board of Houston First, said the 2014 alignment of the two organizations, coupled with an expanding hotel package and other new offerings in the Convention District, helped a top notch sales team to surpass its goal. “The completion of the Marriott Marquis, scheduled for this fall, will add another 1,000 rooms directly connected to the George R. Brown Convention Center, allowing us to go after much bigger conventions than we could before,” Campo said." http://www.visithoustontexas.com/media/press-releases/post/2015-record-year/

samagon
Brochures for:The homeless encampment under the Elysian street viaduct.A day spa featuring mud masks using authentic buffalo bayou mud. - probably But seriously, if they have them, I'd assume Galveston stuff, battleship Texas and San Jacinto monument, NASA, zoo, Astroworld, Water World, Splash Town, The Galleria, museums. They'd be packed, I'm sure. Edited February 3, 2016 by samagon
Nole23
Every hotel in every city I visit has that shelf with tri-fold brochures of all the local stuff to do, wonder what a Houston hotel has on that shelf. Checkout the website below. Lots of stuff to do in H-Town. http://www.visithoustontexas.com/

bobruss
The arts are a major draw to Houston. With the likes of world renowned Menil Collection and its campus including Rothko Chapel, Twombly Pavillion and Richmond Hall. The two James Turrell works at Rice U. and The Friends of the Oak meeting house. The MFAH, The Asia Society collection, Blaffer Gallery, Rice Gallery, Lawndale, Diverse Works and Match.Anyone heard of the Alley Theater, Houston Symphony, Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera, Hobby Center?Or how about dining in one of the most exciting scenes in America with more quality options than almost anywhere exceptNew York or San Francisco.Did anyone mention The Astros, Rockets, Texans, Dynamo, or college sports. How about birding, Nasa, the space museum, the children museum, the Natural science Museum, weather, bicycle, Holocaust,Buffalo soldier museums.Hike Buffalo Bayou park or Memorial park, or Herman Park and Zoo and Miller theater.Maybe play a game of golf on one of 100 courses around the cityMaybe go tour the Texas Medical Center. The downtown tunnel system, the port of Houston.Go ride the water taxis in the woodlands and check out the piney forestsYou want to go shopping? The Galleria, The ROD, Highland Village, The Village City Centre.Maybe a ride down to Galveston for some seafood, a walk on the beach, the strand, historic home tours.Next time someone says there isn't much to do here think again. Houston has more than most of you give it credit for.Soon to have a world class botanical gardens and a great city center for New Years festivals and super bowl events around Discovery Green
