Naviguessor
^^ I certain do Not think that the exterior will be changed, unless something necessary is added. Houston First just spent a small fortune on it two years ago. Looks great now, imo.
gene
I think there have been references in the past to the back side of the GRB being updated etc...that would be amazing especially since it faces the freeway and is seen by everyone!
Naviguessor
The "backside will still be all loading docks, on two levels...a very functional side. I would not expect that this side will see much aesthetic investment. Not much that can be done, I imagine.

Not for long... The freeway will be below grade, most likely covered by a park. There will be no view of the GRB from the freeway. Naviguessor
There are two separate topics. A GRB Project and the Hilton Rooms reno. You are correct, one has nothing to do with the realignment. The other one does.
Houston19514
And one has to do with taking a "damn decade"; the other one does not (the room renovation is not going to take a decade.)

Alec
The tallest cherry picker I've ever seen is reaching over the top of GRB right now. I hope someone a little closer can take a picture; it's got to be twice as tall as the building itself.

I had a project a few months ago on several older water towers where the city(not in houston) had lost the original drawings and wanted to analyze the towers. I was on a 100' lift for about 2 weeks. Photo below is @ about 70'. Anyway long story short, anytime we moved that sucker it felt like it bounced around 1'-2'. Made my knees shake every-time. 9
hindesky
Biggest one JLG makes is the 1850J which has a 185' reach, biggest I've ever been on was 150' and it was scary to be up there when it moves around. Bend at the knees to absorb the movement. Actually they are called AWP(Aerial Work Platform) not cherry picker but most people just call them "JLG's since they are one of the most common, like Jello or Kleenex. 5 1 1

cspwal
I mean it's a steakhouse. Those used to be the only restaurants downtown open for dinner. It's the cafe located within the Welcome Center. 1
