HoustonMidtown
are they going to tear down that big warehouse for this? I don't know why, but I've always thought that was kind of a neat building. I can't even think of anything remarkable about it...but...No - the warehouse on the corner isn't part of this development - it is for sale though....These apartments took over the old Allen Park Inn hotel - it closed after flooding during tropical storm Allison.Im wondering what they are going to build across Allen Parkway where the old paper recycling building used to be....it was torn down a few weeks ago....more apartments probably ? HoustonMidtown
Does anyone know anything about the new apartments under construction at 2121 Allen Parkway (near Montrose/Studemont) where the old Allen Park Inn used to be? I found a little info on the web about it: http://www.usgbc.org/News/usgbcinthenews_d...7&CMSPageID=159Does anyone know the name of the complex? when it will be available for move-in, etc? Thanks! The Bel Air is now pre-leasing:http://www.belairhouston.com/
Htowngirl
Im wondering what they are going to build across Allen Parkway where the old paper recycling building used to be....it was torn down a few weeks ago....more apartments probably ?The old Sacks' waste paper? My apartment overlooks that property. There is some blueprints & contractor information hanging on the gate outside the place for a condominium tower. Since the week of the demolition, I haven't seen seen really anyone at the property. In the past couple weeks some (yellow & black) real estate "For Sale/Information" signs have gone up all around the property. I was wondering if the condo deal fell through (although they haven't taken the blueprints down), or if they were advertising to put retail or offices in some of the floors of the building??? Not sure. Also, I know I will be VERY UPSET to lose my view of the Galleria/Allen Parkway skyline with the rate my rent has been going up since my apartments were bought out by AMLI... VicMan
As for yet another school info post..These apartments will be zoned to:* Wharton Elementary School (http://es.houstonisd.org/whartones/)* Gregory-Lincoln Education Center (for 6-8) (http://ms.houstonisd.org/gregorylincoln/)* Lamar High School (http://hs.houstonisd.org/lamarhs/)Profiles:* http://dept.houstonisd.org/profiles/Wharton_ES.pdf* http://dept.houstonisd.org/profiles/Gregor...onCenter_ES.pdf (Note, the campus is a K-8 school, yet the Bel Air is only zoned for 6-8)* http://dept.houstonisd.org/profiles/Lamar_HS.pdfGregory-Lincoln's building looks like a prison. The good news is that construction started on a brand new school building.Of course, Houston ISD also has transfer and magnet programs in case you wish for your child to attend another school. TxDave
I do miss the Allen Park Inn. It was an inexpensive, clean place to stay in a great location - I stayed there many times when visiting Houston. Is ZOM still involved in this project? They have been done some projects in Dallas, including the Mondrian in Uptown.http://www.mondriancityplace.com/index.htmlThe planned project in Houston looks very nice, but I am a little underwhelmed. That is such a high profile site - couldn't it be more impressive? Edited April 17, 2006 by TxDave

UrbaNerd
Heh...It looks like an apartment version of Hermann Hospital(the newer Memorial buildings, not the older one).
citykid09
Heh...It looks like an apartment version of Hermann Hospital(the newer Memorial buildings, not the older one). When I first saw it, I thought it was Hermann Hospital. Then I clicked the image to make it bigger and I noticed that it was a new apartment building coming.
KatieDidIt
Does anyone know anything about this property? We are considering leasing there for a few based on the meer fact the facility has a dog park and it right in downtown. We are just starting to look and we saw this one on the way to dinner at Ibiza last night. Thanks

VicMan
I saw the Bel-Air (at 2121 Allen Parkway) during the Art Car Parade. It seems like a typical "European-inspired" complex. As for the information on Bel-Air's school zoning (Houston ISD):* Wharton Elementary School* Gregory-Lincoln Education Center (Middle school 6-8 only)* Lamar High SchoolGregory-Lincoln's building, by the way, looks like a prison (I haven't seen any renderings of the new building, though) Edited May 13, 2007 by VicMan

We are considering leasing there for a few based on the meer fact the facility has a dog park and it right in downtown. We are just starting to look and we saw this one on the way to dinner at Ibiza last night.ThanksAccording to O'Connor, prices range from $1.99 per square foot for the smallest 1/1 to $1.29 psf for the largest 3/3. They're offering 2 months of free rent for 12-month leases, so the effective prices psf range from $1.66 to 1.08. That's a little easier to swallow, and is a heck of a lot better than Sabine Street Lofts. 87% of units have been leased, though, so the specials might come to an end pretty soon. We are just starting to look and we saw this one on the way to dinner at Ibiza last night.ThanksIt used to be the site of the Allen Park Inn. The API was a great place. It didn't look like much from the outside but once you got inside it was beautifully landscaped, with a great pool and palapa bar. The bar at the API was like walking into 1965 -- and they served Prime Rib until 2 a.m. Anyway...The API is no longer there because it flooded during T.S. Allison in 2001. You will find this hard to believe, but I saw it with my own eyes both a the time of the flood and visiting the hotel to salvage some stuff a few months later -- the water was about as high as the first floor units of the Bel-Air. What appears to be the Bel-Air's parking garage on the ground level was underwater. So, the only thing I can tell you is that if we have another wicked storm like Allison, you can expect your car to be flooded and, if you live on the first floor at the front of the property, your carpet to be soaked. But how often do you get a chance to launch a kayak from your balcony?I don't know anything else about the place or its management, but I think it looks like a nice development. The location is great. Just ask for the second floor and park as close to Dallas St. as possible during a storm.

The red neon sign just said "Cocktail Lounge" which was kind of cool, so we always just referred to it as Cocktail Lounge. "Like walking into 1965" exactly sums it up. TxDave
The Allen Park Inn was always an affordable place to stay in a great location when visiting Houston. It's too bad that it is gone, but the progress is nice to see
KatieDidIt
Thanks for all your comments!! HAIF is a fountain of information. Luckily we found a house, and the contract was accepted, that is 70% redone. This is great, and we can easily live there while bringing the rest of it back to life. I was getting exhausted just thinking about apartment/condo living with two border collies and two active boys. Mom22Blessings
Oh.....I thought you would have been in the North chapter. I heard the Houston chapter is alot stricter than ours is. I tried to message you but your profile wouldn't let me.
KatieDidIt
No, I never tranferred. I knew I wanted to be a sustainer in the Houston League. Also, It seemed a big hike to the one up here too. I don't know about the strictness, I think all the leagues have gotten pretty lax in their policies over the past ten years out of fear of law suits. My account is not set up for PMs. Sorry
