ChannelTwoNews
I don't recall reading about this building/venue in the past and I'm curious about it. Ya know, the basics... How long was it around, where was it, anyone have memories of it? Thanks in advance!
neuman
This theatre was located at the corner of Fannin and Preston where the Harris County administration building is located. The building on the right is the Pillot building, still located at Fannin and Congress. The theatre was built in 1908 after the Sweeney Coombs Opera House, it's predecessor on the site, burned. Quoting from Cinema Houston "In the 30's, the building was leased to the Classified Parking System and converted into a four story parking garage at an estimated cost of $50,000." Though I do not know for a fact, I would guess that it was demolished in the early 70's for the construction of the Harris County Administration Building.
