JLWM8609
Just heard on the Weather Channel that there's a tornado near Downtown moving east at 30mph. Areas in the pathway of it include but may not be limited to Jacinto City, Galena Park, and Lake Houston Dam.

Jax
I noticed a tornado vortex signature on Wunderground's radar screen and some variations on the storm relative velocity doppler radar from NOAA that seemed to indicate a possible tornado, or at least unusual circulation (Htownwxboy will probably know what I'm talking about). And it was indeed not far from Downtown. I didn't see much here from the Museum District looking north-west. We had some rain and hardly any lightning and light winds, that was all. Trae
What is this tornado that you speak of?
JLWM8609
I'm guessing that this was a funnel cloud and not a tornado, because I don't see anything on the Chron website about tornado damage in the area.
cottonmather0
Very often they'll issue a tornado warning based only on the radar signature and there won't be an actual tornado or any damage reported. Better safe than sorry is fine with me.

I don't believe one ever did. A tornado warning is issued when either a tornado has developed or when rotation withing a storm becomes strong enough that one could develop at anytime. Looking at the storm relative velocity on doppler radar can help you look for storms that are rotating.

HtownWxBoy
Sure was dark driving to work this afternoon... worst weather is remaining north and west of Downtown, though I wouldn't be surprised to see this stuff build southward over the next few hours... we will see. It's completely dark in my house without the lights at 4pm. All the street lights have turned on. I was starting to wonder if there was supposed to be total solar eclipse today. sevfiv
That was a really crappy drive home - dark and water rising.

sevfiv
I observed some pea sized hail around 4:30 at OST and Cambridge. I was around Fannin/OST about that time - makes more sense than me thinking it was random acorns falling from a tree in the rain
