Central Market Houston At 3815 Westheimer Rd.

Recommended Posts

@monarch I would suggest Central Market is on a whole different level than Whole Foods.

I would say it's the most expensive grocery store in Houston. In the middle of River Oaks too. Ironic. Might need to clarify here.  CM's prices for regular, basic, food is not bad. What sets the difference are the one-off items that are $100.  I don't think Whole Foods has items as expensive as CM?

Cheers buddy.. It's holiday season!

I always think about updating this thread with the wild and crazy items I see a Central Market. It's not architecture or buildings related so I never post anything.

Do people actually buy this food? I guess if there's a market for it, there's a buyer. I personally would like to taste the $150 balsamic vinaigrette or the $80 honey.

Today I saw an Orchid arrangement for $500.  I talked with the designer and he encouraged me to pick it up. Felt like it weighed 25 pounds. He told me it's ceramic.

Also noticed a butter wheel that was $89.99.  Crazy!

Yeah and that place stays busy till closing. We have some very wealthy folks in this town.

The seafood market has been wrapped and closed. Anyone know the deal?  I wonder if it was a possibly contaminant. Or maybe the refrigerated food displays all broke so they could not properly display the fish.  A remodel perhaps?

Central Market 30th Anniversary: A taste of Houston.

A little confused. Wasn't CM Houston built in 2001?  I wonder if it's the 30th anniversary of the CM brand itself.

It's been 30 years since the first one opened (in Austin, I believe).

From wiki: The original store opened in 1994 in the Central Park Shopping Center on North Lamar Boulevard in Austin, Texas.

I find this store to be the most confusing grocery store I've ever stepped into. The layout makes no sense, nothing flows, sometimes you're in a section, and it just dead ends. I use Kroger on Buffalo, at least I can find stuff.

Great finds today!  There is a new French mustard that looks fantastic.  Also a new brand of chips!

I really want to try the mustard with gherkins! Martin-Pouret Extra Fine Cornichons.

The new chips are Carolina Kettle brand.

Hal's are good.

Have you tried those chips that are in the PNW market called Tim's Jalapeno Cascade Style Potato Chips?  They're delish.  Wish CM would carry that lineup as well.

I went to the 30th Anniversary this weekend. Both on Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday afternoon was intense! CM was so busy, as what you might see during Thanksgiving.

Pictures I took:

Bread loafs branded with 30! Too cool.

Edit: The bread's ingredients didn't look like anything too cool.  Bring back that carrot, onion bread LOL.

New CM branded chips!  I had wondered what their usual Hatch Pepper Tortilla Chips were this year.  Just after Hatch season, they released a wide-line up of Oaxaca style chips.  From the looks of it, they are a thicker chip.

$14 pickles!  Or Gherkins.  The most expensive at CM.
