Galveston's Population

Recommended Posts

Despite earlier predictions to the contrary, the eye of Hurricane Beryl made landfall close enough to Galveston Island to bring Category 1 (74 to 95 miles per hour) sustained winds to the island. This was severe enough to cause widespread power outages due to damage to the overhead electric power lines. In addition to direct damage caused by the storm winds putting direct stress on the power lines, there was likely secondary damage caused by tree limbs making contact with the power lines.
