EdB
What's going in at the site of the abandoned Adult DVD store across Mason from Number's on Westheimer? Looks like the building is being updated rather than razed. But, for what?

Looks like the building is being updated rather than razed. But, for what?It took a long time to shut down the adult DVD store-- the property owner helped a bit . . . . but strangely didn't want to share with the civic assoc or the HPD storefront- what/who exactly would become the new tenant--only to assure everyone that it would not be another adult DVD----but when the Demitasse cafe was still opened-- 2 men came in and began talking of plans to have a gallery with a "coffee nook" The Demitasse owner always gave me the impression it was some sort of affiliation with the Pictures Plus Gallery on Hyde Park---

Subdude
It's certainly better for the neighborhood than porn shops, but one might spare a thought for scruffy old Montrose being replaced by galleries with "coffee nooks".
sevfiv
Now that you mention it, I remember Pictures Plus was the name on a couple of work permits for the ex-Diner's News location (I figured it was just the business name for the adult DVD part...!) Stargaze
It doesn't sound like a bad idea, just not a constructive move towards the restoration of the Golden Age of Montrose. I feel like I'm in the movie Titanic: It's as if I'm in a crowded room screaming to the top of my lungs and noone even notices. Well, at least not the movers and shakers who control the flavor and personality of the neighborhood.

Well, at least not the movers and shakers who control the flavor and personality of the neighborhood.I see your point. I really do. But, times have changed. Pornography in public is no longer fashionable. People have DVDs, and STDs are viewed warily. We cannot turn back the clock. There are other battles to be fought. And one is more likely to take United Airlines than the White Star Line to cross the Atlantic.I imagine this building would make a fine restaurant. We tried out their Brunch menu yesterday. The renovations took my breath away! I admit I had only seen the adult DVD from the outside,so I couldn't really imagine the conditions inside. The Chef came out to tell some funny and semi-gross (eye popping) stuff, that was encountered as they were renovating. It's hard to tell it was anything like that now--the patio is very nice also.I hope they are sucessful, I'd love to see the whole streetch of lower Westheimer with thriving businesses.
