secretsquirrel
I'm pretty sure it's most likely water that supplies HFD connections in the garage. It seemed for awhile they were planning on using the garage for parking. I know a couple years back they installed a cashier booth, new gate and repainted the interior of the garage. djrage
I would not have thought that they would still have water pressure serving the building. You'd be surprised to know that a lot of the old abandoned buildings downtown still have power too. I just recently learned the old Battlestein's building does and some lights throughout are on all the time. livincinco
Abandoned properties that attract vagrants and an abundance of surface parking lots have hindered development in a section of southeastern downtown, a study released Thursday concluded.Good thing that a study was completed to determine that. I never would have suspected that could be possible.

IronTiger
On contemporary pictures of the building, I've seen the curved outline of what looks like where it had the Days Inn Hotel sign. Did it have anything else after it ceased being a Days Hotel?
sevfiv
I have never seen anything else placed in the curbed signs, but when it was the Plaza it had other ones (I'd love to see if there were any in the Heaven & Earth days..)
ChannelTwoNews
On contemporary pictures of the building, I've seen the curved outline of what looks like where it had the Days Inn Hotel sign. Did it have anything else after it ceased being a Days Hotel? I vaguely recall the Days Inn sunburst logo sign being turned white with the words "Heaven on Earth" rounding the curve and "Inn" at the bottom. Not sure when that finally disappeared though. infinite_jim
Over the past week a demo contractor has been taking out the interior dry wall on the lower levels. The bldg is more transparent as a result.

IronTiger
Are those workers or just some dudes? Ha! I never noticed that. Definitely not construction workers, but I can't tell if they're homeless or just guys without enough things to do.
infinite_jim
They're interior demo subs on break. Not sure what the plan is... might just be the bank trying to flip it onto a hotel developer.

HoustonIsHome
I think if the slap a facade on that garage this thing would look half decent.the garage is such an imposing behemoth. Can't they add fake brick or something over it? Maybe some inoffensive paint. They need to leave the Humble Oil building alone and donate ask that glass to this building. Lol
democide
So, are they gutting and renovating it for other purposes, or is it going to be a surface lot? Did someone answer this? Sorry if it was, so will it be torn down completely?

democide
I was playing around with the SkyHouse Houston webcam, going back and forth at the archived snapshots taken during construction and I noticed in the background that the Days Inn Hotel is now virtually empty from any interior walls. I attached a snapshot taken today at 5:26 pm: If you go back starting from around January 14 around the same time (on sunny days) you can start noticing this, since the Savoy Hotel is blocking the view to the lower levels. Has the activity at the site and the carrying out of debris been unnoticeable all this time? So is this building going down soon? With explosives? I sure hope so, that would be one quick improvement to southern downtown. Edit: Correction, I knew this was going on (as well as some of you did too) due to earlier posts but I figured since no one was adding any updates, that meant the gutting of the building had stopped. Triton
Does anyone know who the new investors are in this building?
IronTiger
I hope the answer is "an extensive renovation that adds condos and a new facade" or "implosion soon". The worst case scenario is "ran out of money". Out of curiosity, what's the chance of that?
Ross
Does anyone know who the new investors are in this building? Here's a page from Wysk that lists the principals of the owning company and their companies: http://www.wysk.com/search/doEntitySearch.cfm?q=NADEEM%20NASIR
jdbaker
My sources say the Holiday Inn is going to become a Marriott. Same developer as the Savoy project.
