Twinsanity02
It appears to be a fan palm of some type. My guess a Mexican or California Fan Palm. Very common in the Houston area impossible to grow in Dallas.
PD_1
It is not a POTTED palm. It looks like it is in some sort of bag.

monarch
^^^ aren't they afraid that it could blow off, fall to the ground, risking injury to someone? that looks rather haphazard.....
phillip_white
I would hope that the net would catch it, but I had the same thought as to what they were thinking putting it up there. ^^^ aren't they afraid that it could blow off, fall to the ground, risking injury to someone? that looks rather haphazard.....
Nate99
I would hope that they didn't just plop it up there and hope for it to take root.

Thanks for the photos. And I'm glad the Hilton is getting some competition. They played hardball with a nonprofit event last year (as they could) and now we will have more choices.

HoustonIsHome
We may not have gotten a super tall or a very unique tower this boom cycle, but we did get a couple of towers that make a big impact on our skyline (as this does), we got a lot of residential and hotel rooms which will change the feel immensely, and we got rid of a lot of surface lots.

I don't think we'll ever warrant a supertall unless the density continues to increase the way it has this past cycle closer to Chicago levels, (11,864.4/sq mi compared to it being 3,662/sq mi now). EllenOlenska
We do have lots and lots of land, and prohibitive land features warrants more creativity--and height. But I'm ecstatic about the Northeast quadrant of downtown--southeast of Main, northeast of the Park.

With Houston Downtown being roughly a mile x mile (a little less, I think, actually), when much the stuff on the books gets (hopefully) built, we might be something like 9,000-ish. That would be great!

Twinsanity02
Like a baby, this building is soon approaching the third trimester. Much internal work. Instead of myelinating neurons, electrical work and plumbing. Should be one beautiful baby when it is done.
