jackie21love
it is meaningless to compare how many international carriers fly to these two airport. For example I don't think their is any difference between 2 UA to Tokyo and 1 UA + 1 ANA. Yes you may argue saying codeshare may bring more passengers, but from airport perspective it is not making too much difference. What we should see is AA is definitely placing more weights on DFW comparing to UA on IAH. They added Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong three destination within one year. But what UA has done in the past few years? They simply cut off plan of Auckland and Shanghai due to Southwest planning international service in Hobby. DFW also have Qantas serving Australia, which makes a huge difference. AA also flies to 2 destinations from DFW to Hawaii. I am pleased we are going to build new terminal D, but IAH footprint is so awkward to make any future expansion comparing with DFW.

nativehoustonion
I believe the decision not to fly AKL to IAH is there is no that much of a market. Has nothing to due with Hobby expansion. Houston MSA is larger then the whole country of New Zealand. When United started flying from LAX to Melbourne with the 787-900 Virgin Australia stop there service. Quantas is using a Airbus 380. The United flight has a load factor of 80%. Quantas cannot fill up the Airbus 380 so they are losing money on that route. United received another 787-900 wonder where that will fly. They are starting to fly the 787-800 to South America. United will get 10 787-900 this year all based in IAH. Hopefully more international non stops fro Houston. Houston19514
Number of Passenger Airlines at DFW according their website today:24Domestic: 11Foreign Flag: 13 https://www.dfwairport.com/visitor/P1_009559.php A few notes: The list to which you responded is not a listing of the number of passenger airlines at the two airports but is a listing of the passenger airliners offering international service. If we're going to post the total number of passenger airlines serving the airports in an IAH vs. DFW thread, it probably makes sense to include the numbers for both airports. I'll even include a listing. IAH: 28 passenger airlinesDomestic: 7 Domestic1. Alaska Airlines2. American Airlines3. Delta4. Frontier5. Spirit6. Sunwing (Seaonal) (Hat tip to Asubrt)7. jackie21love
How do you count 21 flag carriers??? Aeromexico, Air Canada, Air China, Air France, Air New Zealand, ANA, Avianca, British Airways, Emirates, KLM, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Scandinavian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines count for flag carriers, total at 15. All others like EVA, Interjet, Volaris, West Jet and others are clearly not. Though EVA has long haul flight, but Taiwan's flag carrier is China Airlines, just like Asiana vs Korean Air, China Estern vs Air China. But anyway, 15 is a number we should be proud of.

I count 21 (actually now 22) foreign flag carriers because there will be 21 (now 22) foreign flag carriers serving George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The term "foreign flag carrier" does not designate state-owned carriers. It is any air carrier other than a US flag air carrier. asubrt
The Wikipedia police are Nazis and won't let you update it if there's not an exact starting date. People tried about 5 times the other day when it was announced and they kept erasing it and leaving more and more angry comments in the page history until they locked the page. Same thing happened with Southwest when they announced the international destinations fromHobby to start in October before they officially announced the 15th. It's a stupid rule but they're incredibly strict about it. Those people take themselves way too seriously.

Metro
Quite a difference 4 years makes. IAH is still larger than DFW in terms of international passengers, but fortunes have changed somewhat in that DFW seems to have been more successful recently at landing new international service (albeit mostly due to AA). Both airports also lost routes. AA just announced seasonal Auckland service yesterday, evening out each airport's service to the South Pacific. Tel Aviv was announced a few months ago, and AA also announced they were going twice daily to Rome for a few weeks in the summer. This is my attempt to update the current international long-haul tally from earlier posts. I'm not certain of the seasons or frequency of all of these. Europe DFW: Amsterdam (AA), Paris (AA 2x/day, AF), London (AA 3x, BA), Frankfurt (AA, LH), Munich (AA), Madrid (AA 2x), Dublin (AA), Rome (AA 2x) lost: Reykjavik IAH: Amsterdam (KL, UA), Paris (AF), London (UA 2x, BA 2x), Frankfurt (UA, LH), Munich (UA), Manchester (SQ) lost: Moscow, Stavanger Middle East/Africa DFW: Dubai (EK), Doha (QR), Tel Aviv (AA) lost: Abu Dhabi IAH: Dubai (EK), Doha (QR), Istanbul (UA), Lome/Addis Ababa (Ethiopian) lost: Lagos, Luanda Asia/South Pacific DFW: Tokyo (AA 2X, JL), Beijing (AA), Seoul (AA, KE), Shanghai (AA), Hong Kong (AA), Sydney (QF), Auckland (NZ) IAH: Tokyo (UA, NH), Beijing (CA), Singapore (SQ via Manchester), Taipei (EVA), Sydney (UA), Auckland (NZ) lost: Seoul South America: DFW: Lima, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Santiago (all AA) lost: Rio IAH: Lima, Sao Paulo, Rio, Buenos Aires, Santiago (all UA)
