rsb320
I think Alamo Drafthouse will be the biggest thing to happen to Midtown since Post moved in. When are they expected to open doors? I never saw a date.Early 2013 - http://houston.culturemap.com/newsdetail/05-30-12-14-12-alamo-drafthouse-is-heading-to-midtown-houston-suddenly-has-movie-options/

j_cuevas713
Well its shortly after the Vintage location opens, I'd say roughly the same time, but a damn good question. Anyone have a solid time?
rci2145
Unless I'm looking at the wrong block, I don't see any construction activity yet.
samagon
I almost want to say I read in a thread on here that they were targeting 2014, but I can't find anything to back that up.
j_cuevas713
That would really blow, but I doubt that because I remember reading on the Alamo Draft House website that this was a move all planned for 2013, and how this was going to be a huge year for them. brian0123
Considering that construction hasn't even started, I'd be very surprised they can build a new movie complex, garage, and reno the existing building to be ready by a 2013 move-in date. If so, it would have to be near the very end of the year.
TGM
Somebody write them a stimulus check before the account is drawn down. They need their check darnit!File it under arts and humanities or thirst quenching or something.

j_cuevas713
http://blogs.houstonpress.com/artattack/2012/05/alamo_drafthouse_will_open_in.phpThats the link for their plans. They already closed the West Oaks location as promised. Are already in the works to open the new location in Vintage Park early next year. From that point I would assume they would begin construction on the Midtown location some time mid 2013.
j_cuevas713
The official midtown website indicates that Oct 20th Midtown will host its first Alamo Drafthouse Movie Night at Baldwin Park. Could this be a precursor to the new development in The Mix? http://houstonmidtown.com/
kylejack
Eh, they've been hosting these Alamo Drafthouse Roadshows for a while now, previously in Market Square.
j_cuevas713
Still you don't think their could be a reason they are targeting Midtown now? Just wondering...
kylejack
Well sure, that makes sense. Doesn't mean the theater has started construction yet, though. Going to be a long time.

Howard Huge
Hopefully soon, I am growing tired of driving to edwards on 59 and paying for parking on top of an already overpriced movie ticket.
TonyM
Hopefully soon, I am growing tired of driving to edwards on 59 and paying for parking on top of an already overpriced movie ticket. Then go to Sundance downtown. It's closer to Midtown, they'll comp your $7 parking, and for the same price as that lousy Edwards ticket you get high backed reserved seats in a theater that's actually clean and doesn't have a bunch of whiney teenagers who's parents dumped them off for three hours to ruin your movie.Sundance is great. And you can buy a beer to go with your flick.
kbates2
Sundance is great. Still hoping that we can get this Alamo Drafthouse as well.

kylejack
Only trouble with Sundance is sometimes the selection is too niche. I love a good art film or documentary, but sometimes I just want to see a blockbuster. They've been better lately, but when they first opened they only had 1 or 2 at a time. Nole23
While I doubt the Midtown location will open this year because I haven't seen any construction yet, hopefully this means ground breaking will happen sometime soon... "The Alamo Drafthouse also plans to open its first inner-loop location later this year. It will be located in the Midtown area at 2901 Louisiana St. as part of a mixed-use project developed by Crosspoint Properties." http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2013/01/25/under-construction-work-underway-on.html
kbates2
I emailed the author to find out if the Alamo CEO had specifically mentioned it and he apparently hadn't (although he hadn't been asked, so no indication either way). You may notice I want an Alamo Drafthouse next to me. LOVE peeing during movies. But for real.

Sounds like 2901 Louisiana is canceled.
