SpaceGhost
Does anyone happen to have any pictures of Auchan when it was still in operation. I would much prefer pictures of the West Belt location as this is the one I frequented. Although either location is fine. I've done some Googling and really only been able to find a very low-res commercial with a few swooping shots. Any pics you have even if it was after Auchan had closed would be apprciated. Thanks! IronTiger
I heard it still kinda resembles the old Auchan in the interior, if you ever get a chance to see it.
SpaceGhost
I have been since closing and unfortunately I can't say that it does anymore. The store is similar in the sense that the gorcery is still on the right side of the building. Although it has been chopped in half. The left side is an abandoned (the last time I checked) furniture store. The from section where the smaller stores/food court where still are in tact although I believe most, if not all of the orignal tenats have moved out. Replaced by low class shops eg: Jewlery cellphone repair and assecories in the Mc. Donalds. Casino bus depots (ugh) in the Taco Bell, and most of the rest is abandoned. The store itself Food Town is no where the size of Auchan's grocery section, all the checking stands have been replaced the seafood and meat departments have been moved to the front of the store. They where all the way at the back IIRC. They also now have Disney charactereds airbrushed all over the walls. The original "high-class" style of decor/signage is gone. The faux roof over the produce section is gone. The chese section is no longer there. It's just a former shell of it self. Also I should state the reason I wish to find pictures is to go and try to recreate a map of the store, then take comparitive pictures of the current stores. BelindaMata
During a horrible divorce and employment dry spell/job any job to survive I worked at Auchan (1990). My memories from that time are:Being called out by a supervisor for not wearing knee high hose at a time when I could not afford them.Sharing a drink cup from the on store Pizza Hut for free refills. I got it from the archived old site (auchanhypermarket.com) but this is the only relevant picture I could get. This later became a Citgo.

It's amazing to see this as at the time I had not seen any sort of store with a gas station. And as far as I know it would be a few years before this would become common place. IronTiger
Wal-Mart and Kmart had been actually doing at the time (Kmart never got too much of it, since it went bankrupt in 2002), as well as Albertsons, but it wasn't nearly as common as today. Unfortunately, even the Citgo that replaced it survived only until the mid-2000s when it was demolished for a strip center that runs in front of the old store. IronTiger
I am absolutely full-color pictures exist somewhere (newspapers offices, likely) that were taken for publicity shots. Just one of the things that can't be found--there's still no good old Greenspoint Mall pictures anywhere, either...
