Soon United Airlines is is moving from 1600 Smith to 609 Main. I wish we could light up the skyline like Dallas. Meow! I totally disagree, it actually has always been one of my favorites! It has a crown, and multiple profiles with the stepped sections. It can look like totally different buildings depending on the angle. & chill with Houston/Dallas cat fights please.

nativehoustonion
Houston - Continental Center Ihttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continental_Center_I This post-modern gas chamber inspires suicide and nothingness at every section. Everything looks sterile and as if designed to trap people inside. Sort of ironic considering the only thing this building was known for was being vacant. Sorry I'll get back to the subject.
nativehoustonion
A friend of mine that work for United at 1600 Smith said they are moving into 609 main last part of April.

The lighting doesn't seem nearly as bright as I had hoped, but other then that it's not terrible. It could of been cool if they had LEDs along the angles/edges though.
brijonmang
Are we sure they are done getting all the LEDs up and running?
Tonyhtown
All LEDS are not up yet at least not all from the crown.

I saw some lights running the crease from the bottom to the top on the other day... So i know the full lighting scheme has not been implemented just yet. FYI the lights we saw on a couple days ago are just the cycle through / testing... Let wait till the building is 'complete' to judge the lighting. I hoped/figured they would back the rest of the crown/fins with LEDs, so maybe it will look better once that's done. I just hope they can turn up the brightness.. so far they look more like a dim glow than bright colorful accent lighting.

SmellyHoustonian
Our move-in date to the building has been delayed from May to July. I'm ready to move out of our current space!

rechlin
That damage was already there two weeks ago by the time the sidewalks opened. They hadn't even installed the ceiling there yet. Houston drivers never fail to amaze me.
Houston19514
Doesn't look to me like it was caused by a vehicle. I suspect it was construction related and will be fixed very shortly, as the building approaches completion.
mollusk
You're both right - it's likely that the damage was caused by a construction related vehicle, (inattentively) operated by a Houston driver.

Naviguessor
^^ Agree. I even like the subtleness of the crown lighting. I believe that ornamental lighting on a building should highlight architectural elements, not define the structure. This building still just keeps getting better and better.

Then again, I don't control the budget for this place so maybe that's all we'll get.
