HTexas
Anyone know what is the new business going to be at 2708 Bagby (across the street from the closed down Aloha Modelling Studios)? They have been working on the building and grounds for weeks (daily including Sundays) but there is no signage as to what this business is going to be when finished. What a strange way to promote a future business establishment! Hope it's not a revamped Aloha Modelling Studio!!
sevfiv
Something/someone named "Prime Lounge" bought the permits for the site.Cedar Street Partners/Scott S. Frasier (Scott Frasier homes) owns the property.

One of the partners is the owner of Skyline Deli downtown. Now if Farb would get started and the remnants of Aloha would disappear...this would be a nice block. HTexas
I got the scoop.....see this site...it's called Union Bar & Lounge. Looks promising and they did a great job on making it modern and hip...http://www.myspace.com/unionlounge
roadrunner
I drove by this the other day and it looks pretty cool. Big patio, and it looks to be a trendy Midtown bar inside. I know people here hate trendy, but I'm pretty pumped to check it out. I think Houston has a ton of laid back bars, so I welcome these "hard night" bars. Also, what's the name of the new bar right down the street from Maple Leaf where Late Nite Pie used to be? It looks cool, also.

HTexas
I think the name of that bar is Great Dane or something like that. I drove by the other day and glanced quickly. It's called "Saint Dane's" and is an open-air sports bar with some food. Couldn't find much else about it. rsb320
I can't find the correct thread, but this is in the general vicinity. The Farb property at Bagby and McGowan is for sale. I noticed it for the first time today. This is the property with a cellular antenna in the middle, where they were going to build an apt complex around it. I guess they decided not to develop it at this time.

Nobody can actually do anything with it right now...never mind the asking price of it.

Oh well, eventually something will be developed there. It's really quite shocking to reflect back at where we were last year (regarding the economy) and how everything has changed so drastically. HTexas
I noticed the marquee today at Union Bar on Bagby stating "OTC Now Hiring". There is a fresh coat of paint and I've seen people working on it this week. The bar started out more upscale and seemed to turn into a dive. Does anyone know anything about what is going on with the revamp? I hope they do something worthwhile since I live so close by and would enjoy a cafe or less rowdy bar! kylejack
OTC Patio Bar is a bar in Upper Kirby. They just resolved a lawsuit against them and a couple other bars by neighbors complaining they were too loud and rowdy.
HTexas
So possibly OTC is moving or adding a location there on Bagby where Union Bar is located....

OkieEric
Facebook page confirms that they sold it. End of an era for me as I spent quite a bit of time there years ago after it first opened
HTexas
Definitely official. I got a "Notice of Application" in the mail from TABC stating that OTC Midtown was getting a permit to sell alcoholic beverages. Owner is Strauss Bier Haus, LLC and the memo also references business partners Andy Aweida and Mohammad Baratizadeh. Hope that they turn out good. I noticed on the Facebook page that they reference "Pizza Grill"...that makes me happier that they potentially have something else to go there for other than drinks. I really enjoyed Dogwood last Thursday, but definitely have to go very early to get a seat and less noise. Beautiful place and inventive food. kkirchemshk
Yes!!! I got my Notice of Application in the Mail yesterday..From OTC and dated on the App was said it was dated as sent on March 18th...As a resident here for 5-years. Having endured 5 years of Union bar Noise..drunk customers cars parking up and down the niegborhood, streets fights from union bar patrons... having the valet charge and park on public streets and on private property without the owners permissions and having the valet park acrossand block our drive way once, I have enjoyed the PEACE and QUIET since Union Bar Went under...There was a lawsuit agianst OTC and two other bars at the Kirby avenue location and i dont know if they were flushed out and into our Neighborhood..I really dont want another rude loud Bar...and i think this one is open until 2 am 7 days a week..do we want that?????? Food or not....I hope all who got their notifications will send it back in with thier concerns..we do not need another Bad Neighbor like Union Bar!!!!!! Texasota
Um, it's a bar being replaced by a bar in a bar-heavy part of town. What exactly is the issue here?

They didn't like the bar that was there before either. So the issue is that they don't like a rowdy bar being next to them.
