Popular Post texan
Highlights from a Community Impact article shared in the Space Center Houston thread: Spaceport expects to break ground on Phase II infrastructure in 12-18 months at a cost of $80 million across 300 acres; it will include space for a hotel, restaurant, and retail Phase II will also include "the aerospace institute" Spaceport in "serious talks" with three potential new tenants (if these all pan out, depending on who they are, Houston could leapfrog other cities' commercial space clusters) Axiom Space and Intuitive Machines will have ribbon cuttings by the end of September Officials are considering finding an investor to build a multi-tenant building for smaller companies to locate without having to build their own buildings https://communityimpact.com/houston/pearland-friendswood/development/2023/05/15/ready-to-launch-houston-spaceport-museum-plan-expansions-as-astronauts-prep-lunar-mission/ Also, NASA recently delivered a former Space Shuttle Multi-Purpose Logistics Module (MPLM, used to transport cargo to the ISS) to Axiom Space's spaceport facility via Super Guppy. This module will be outfitted for use on the Axiom Station. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/space/article/nasa-super-guppy-houston-commercial-space-station-17920584.php 10
texan
In the state budget released today, $350 million is included in it for the Texas Space Commission. $200 million of that is for Texas A&M to build a facility "adjacent to the Johnson Space Center". I think the most logical place for this is the spaceport since there is already a plan for a university facility there. Otherwise my next guess is Space Center Houston land. The enabling bill, HB 3447 has not yet passed and is in conference committee. If it does not become law, this all goes away.

Both the state budget that includes the money for this (HB 1) and the enabling bill to create the commission and research fund (HB 3447) have been passed by the legislature. The budget is being examined by the comptroller and HB 3447 has been sent to Governor Abbott's desk. He was an early endorser of this plan so it should be a foregone conclusion that he'll sign them both/allow them to become law. We can hopefully look forward to planning and construction to commence on this massive facility in the next two years! 7

ChannelTwoNews
Thought this might be a good place to post this - it's not specifically part of the newer part of the Spaceport that's being built, but it is at Ellington and Venus Aerospace's engine project does seem to be a good fit for the work that's going on over there, even if the craft is closer to the earth. https://houston.innovationmap.com/venus-aerospace-airbus-ventures-2661319857.html "Venus Aerospace released the news that Silicon Valley venture capital firm, Airbus Ventures, has joined its team of investors. The supersonic combustion engine technology — more akin to a rocket's engine than an airplane's — is revolutionary because allows for travel at a higher elevation. Jet engines rely on air outside of the aircraft to combust, and rocket engines work with a system that supplies air internally." 6
