TowerSpotter
I don't usually complain, but this is one UGLY garage. Edited October 11, 2013 by TowerSpotter
Montrose1100
Finally a staple for the Parking District! Exactly how long would it take to get to the top? Is this being built to hopefully get some of those new Chevron employees?

Subdude
A crown jewel for the Parking District!   You know, I think the city should start promoting the Parking District with bogus statistics, the way they used to for the Theater District. Putting out publicity like "Houston's Parking District has more parking spaces in a concentrated downtown area than any other parking district in the US."

"Come see Houston's first automatic parking garage." Add in some cheesy "City of Tomorrow" slogan and bam...immediate tourist attraction. Moore713
Omg its a parking garage I would rather have a 16 story than a flat lot..Plus a story still leaves room for ground floor while still addressing  Houston need for parking.. hell it actuall makes it easler .. in stead of a lot that can hold maybe 235, you can now hold 1600.. while not breaking street level retail(if you wanted)
swtsig
It is desperately needed. They need to convert at least 6 more lots into high density garages.
Subdude
Is parking really that short in downtown Houston?  Compared to other downtowns I have been to there seems like there are loads of parking (including an entire Parking District).  I'm not objecting to this garage, but I really have a hard time believing that there is a parking shortage.
ClutchCity
Is the City of Houston planning this? Is there anymore concrete information? It looks like it has some retail on the first floor which would be pretty cool! This might just be the mixed-used tower that we need anchoring the parking district. nate
For the sake of the people who park on the upper floors, I sure do hope that this garage has helix/spherical ramps like Regency Garage has. 16 stories is a long way up.

As ancedotal evidence only, I do know that the Regency Garage across the street from this development has just raised their rates for all floors. They also have very high occupancy on all floors.
H-Town Man
Maybe at some point in the not-too-distant Houston will have the world's first legitimate parking skyscraper. What a bloody distinction that would be.
mfastx
Eh, better than a surface lot.  I hope the first floor looks decent.

totheskies
I agree one hundred percent that this is better than surface lots... if we must have parking, we may as well put the cars in a garage. But it would be a shame to waste the opportunity for some additional street-level retail. I hope they don't.

htownproud
Parking is at a premium in that area. Â 1100 Smith, which is on the other side of the Hyatt from this project, is booked and anything but cheap. Â

HoustonIsHome
I don't have a problem with parking garages. I think a couple more tall ones should go up in downtown and midtown and that new residential buildings in those areas should have limited parking. Especially midtown.
