BigFootsSocks
Well isn't that something? And here I thought that last picture of the Conference room was a shot taken in the actual room, showing the wide open green spaces and plentiful trees across the street from the Stowers building.
j_cuevas713
I'd say the bottom one is the only one that is close to real... but notice the clear blue skies in the first few... the water simulation for the pool is off, looks like clear mercury... and there is no real shadow cast the way light actually acts in real life... just too perfect... we do this a lot at my job... its still nice though Edited February 21, 2016 by j_cuevas713
cspwal
A few weeks ago Starwood updated the site for Aloft Hotel at 820 Fannin St in downtown Houston. The site shows an opening date of June 21, 2016 and renderings: I don't understand where this sign would be - I mean there's no set back from the street at all for this building

adr
I was in Tulsa last week, and I used to occasion to book a room in the Aloft hotel they have there. It was similarly a repurposing of an old building, in that case some sort of modernist office building in the midst of their civil government complex (surrounded by a convention center, courthouse, govt offices, etc). It was fantastic from a customer experience perspective. It really made me even more excited that this is the brand taking over this building - this hotel is going to be a hit and a really cool addition to the neighborhood.
Nate99
They are putting in drywall in the lobby level and have the TABC permit application poster in the window. July seems reasonable.

UtterlyUrban
I am quite pleased to see this project coming to fruition. It will be a nice addition to the landscape of options for business and leisure travelers alike.
bobruss
Really nice project. Anytime an old building gets repurposed in Houston is a good project. I also like seeing those wonderful gardens on top of BG garage. Would someone take some shots of the gardens and post them. Thanks

rechlin
A/C units are finally running again, and most of the structures are now in place on the roof. Even the guardrail has now been installed. Lots of activity as they try to finish this up.

Urbannizer
Bill is 82% finished with the renovation of the Stowers building (seen below), but recently got a call from Parks Services saying the project was in danger of losing its tax credits because they didn't like the pipes and sprinklers the city made them put in for fire code. The hotel lost some rooms trying to work around the problem and remain historic. H-Town Man
While Bill is a pioneer in historic preservation in Houston, some might be surprised to find out he's also building a shiny new convention center hotel (breaking ground after the Super Bowl) Say wha???

Texasota
eh, a couple months are no big deal. There are always surprises, especially when renovating an existing building. Edited June 15, 2016 by Texasota
rechlin
The rooftop patio is looking great, with a new TPO roof and most of the pavers installed, but I would definitely not want to swim in that pool right now!

WOW? You can swim laps without even using strokes, but you had better be good at turns. If I worked in BG Place, I'd get a room on my day off just to sit out there taunting my co-workers.
