kylejack
There's a new rugby sports bar Downtown in the old Angelo's or Mantra space (next door to Flying Saucer). They weren't quite ready to open but decided to open early to show the World Cup matches. They have a few appetizers that they've been offering for free. Eventually they'll have a South African menu. This is the second location, the first being in Van Nuys, CA. It's a pretty fun place to watch a game.

skwatra
Can you get Kudu here?I think my favorite part of South Africa cuisine was all the different types of Piri Piri sauce they had. So many restaurants made their own, always a bit unique.
skwatra
For matches so far I've been to Munich, Phoenix (Firkin), and Junction. The first two had great crowds. Junction was fine but lacking fans of the actual teams (which was surprising for England Italy on a Saturday).

Check out "Traditional Dishes" here: http://www.thespringbok.com/food-drink-menu.html That's the Van Nuys menu, though ours may end up a little different. I've been watching what matches I can from home, I went to lucky's in the east end for the USA match, glad I rode my bike so the beer could air dry on the way home. that place was packed. I love the enthusiasm that I see in USA fans these days (even if their soccer knowledge is a bit lacking, their heart is in the right place). skwatra
I checked out Springbok yesterday. Very cool setup, good addition to that area. Looking forward to when they have a full menu. There were about 20 people in there having drinks, but no one was actually watching the match (except our table). Subdude
Germany scored FIVE goals over Brazil in the first half! This must be one of the greatest collapses in Cup history!
Subdude
Germany scores AGAIN! 0-6 Oh, the humanity!
Subdude
And again! Best quote on the feed:I was going to say I've never seen anything like this, but no one has ever seen anything like it.
arche_757
moo I couldn't care who wins or loses this game. The highlights I've watched appear to show the Germans moving at high speed with the Brazilians simply plodding along at a snails pace. Odd to think they're that bad AT home! Crazy. Though Brazil hasn't impressed that much this cup. Germany vs Holland for the final? Could be quite entertaining.
Subdude
Germany v Argentina might be more likely. This will be one of those losses that people will remember for life, like Bill Buckner in 1986. Brazil was still favored to win even with Neymar (sp) out. Brazil actually scored 1-
arche_757
Is Argentina favored? I would be surprised to think they might be. I think the Dutch are a better team, and have played a better crop of teams this cup than Argentina. Germany vs Holland Germany wins 2-1 in extra time. Subdude
I haven't followed it meticulously, but I was under the impression Argentina was slightly favored. Of course, Brazil was today so who can tell?
arche_757
I think that's all the pundits thinking Argentina is better than Holland - because they've won the cup before... but I think Holland has a better body of work, and have won against mostly better competition through the knockout and group stage (though Australia is a question mark).I'll admit this cup has featured me watching the least amount of games possible. I just really don't care this year. Even the US results didn't matter to me - I conceded defeat entering the cup, and the USMNT failing against Portugal to win outright = a very blase view of this whole event. And I enjoy soccer/futbol/whathaveyou.
mollusk
I'm just glad we don't have matchups that would have Germany rolling over Belgium and then coming to a draw with France.
TowerSpotter
No way! Holland is very tricky, they have a specialist for penaltys and only comes out for penaltys. On top of that Robben is such a faker, throws himself on the ground whenever he has a chance to. I don't like the way the Netherlands play. I hope they lose against Argentina. I think that would be Germany rolling over Belgium, The Netherlands, and France, only to be bested by the US, Britain, France and Russia in the next cup 4 years later.
