bach
Cool ,so that's what the scaffolding was for last time I walked by it...Is the lighting still up? I was under the impression that the lighting was installed just for the opening of their new restaurant (Voice) which was last Thursday night.
The Great Hizzy!
Seems awfully elaborate for an opening night only motiff.
Jax
There was no lighting last night so they must have taken it down. It's a shame because it looked really cool.
Trae
http://www.bizjourna...-slam-dunk.html Magic Johnson and his new investment partner plan on turning the Hotel Icon Downtown into either a W Hotel or Ritz Carlton (within the next 45 days). Just in time for the Final Four this April, too.

This is great news nonetheless!

This is great news nonetheless! It could be a W ... the NY Union Square and French Quarter locations are both renovated historic buildings. (I'm just assuming that your reservations are based on its more common image of being a more sleek and modern hotel chain)

sonic0boom
Guilty! I was merely besing my reservation on the one in our neighbors to the north! My first experience at a W was in Times Square, and it was partay central over there. But then i stayed at the location in the French Quarter and my room was in a converted carriage house (which explained the odd shape of the room). It was still modern, but of a different sort than the Dallas or Times Square locations. One of the reasons, i think, that the W is among my favorite hotel chains...

Houston19514
Hotel Icon is going to become a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel. Looks like a good brand for them and for downtown Houston. It's Marriott's newest brand and they describe it as "a select group of upscale and luxury independent hotels, each with its own distinct personality and unique experiences, style and features."Autograph Collection
(Otto Mation)
elnina999 has added a photo to the pool: The focal point of Hotel ICON is the full floor lobby, which is punctuated original architectural elements that include turn-of-the-century ironwork, egg and dart moldings and two rows of Doric columns, soaring nearly 30 feet. Hotel ICON initially debuted in 2004, following a $35-million, two-year repurposing and painstaking refurbishment of the 1912 Union National Bank building, which had remained vacant and in a state of near disrepair for more than two decades prior. One of the earliest steel and concrete skyscrapers in the country, the 12-story structure was designed in the neo-classical style by the St. Louis firm of Mauran, Russell & Crowell.www.visithoustontexas.com/listings/hotel-icon/19743/ View the full article
