thedistrict84
I walked by the building earlier this morning and snapped a quick photo. Saw the earlier photo from @Andrew Ewert, but it looks like the Houston Post letters were behind a facade and are now being removed? The “T” and “H” are gone, and it looks like they’re chiseling away at the “E.” If they are removing them instead of incorporating them into the design, that would be disappointing.

Folks on Nextdoor keep talking about Sprouts going in there, but I didn't think that was the case. No surprise, but most of the folks on Nextdoor commenting on that post are horribly misinformed. I wouldn't be surprised if the Chronicle wouldn't allow them to keep the sign intact once it was uncovered. Ever since they acquired the Post's assets, they've done their damnedest to erase the Post from the collective memory.

Houston19514
It looks like the T and the h may have been previously damaged. I don't think the Chronicle would have any right to require them to remove it.

cspwal
When I passed by this morning, it looked like some of the bricks might have been chipped at? I don't know if twas already like that, or if they are going to remove those bricked up sections

Looks like they're well on their way now to getting the brickwork patched up as well as adding brand new brick wall sections along Emancipation. Starting to look good.

cspwal
I think the "TH" was damaged - when they revealed it last week, it had a full "THE" but was shortly became "E", so I'm thinking they will probably make some EIFS TH to match the rest of the letters

thedistrict84
I drove by this project on Emancipation for the first time in a few weeks and I have to say. . . the window, door, and brick color combination is giving off a "middle school in some random suburban town constructed in 1995" vibe. I'm not a fan.

samagon
assuming they are going for some federal assistance for taxes on the historic nature of the building, it was probably a requirement.

They ripped out a bunch of mature trees in more or less the same locations during construction. It will probably take 20 years at a minimum for these to get back to the size of the previous trees. hindesky
I saw an online permit for the demolition of the slab behind the old Sparkle Burger but its still there. The fact that they are going to remove it makes me think the apartments may be in the works.
