psilverot
Been reading a lot of articles pertaining to 'food deserts'. One particular area that surprises me as being a food desert area or low income area is the champion forest/1960 area. IMO a trader joes would thrive on 1960/CCP (Cypress Creek Parkway). Thoughts? IronTiger
Food desert ≠ low income area, and if that was true, then it would not be good for a TJ's. Secondly, there is a Randalls there, which is a "real" supermarket. There also used to be a Rice Epicurean across the street, though that only lasted a few years. acamarillo
yeah, champions forest/1960 doesn't make much sense, but kuykendahl/1960 might. No real groceries the immediate area except for food town at Ella; all the others are several miles away.
curbur
Most people that live in that area end up at Vintage off Louetta for dining & retail.
D Miller
Trader's Joe has 4 Houston Metro area locations and not 1 is in an area similar to the 1960 NW Houston / Champions corridor. That area is typically inhabited by families, often large families, which is not what Trader Joe's caters to. If you're talking about "food desert" and wanting an niche grocery store to service it, then you need to talk Whole Foods and not Trader Joe's. But the 1960 corridor isn't really the target market for Whole Foods either....which is why it's near the Vintage. hbcu
if 1960 is a food desert than sunnyside is a food volcano
