KimberlySayWhat
You know, I didn't even know some of these people had moved on until I read it here. I see someone new and I think they're just filling in. Then I get so used to seeing them that I forget about the other person. Bob Nicholas was gone from Channel 2 for years before I even noticed. What happened to him? My friend and I used to laugh and say that he looked like an owl. We'd go "Whooo whooo".

LarryDallas
Liz Vargas probably has issues because she never got over osing Michael Douglas who went on to marry Katherine Zeta Jones. If your ex ended up with someone considered to be in the like top 3% of who is attractive in the industrialized world then you too would be sort of odd. I can see why ABC is going with her. She is Latin and a woman so they tap 2 demos that the other networks have again chosen not to gear towards when Rather and Browkaw left. Charlie Gibson should have gotten the job. I think ABC fails to realize that the spanish speaking networks have their own news programs that are loved and trusted by their own segment of the market. Remember that that hispanic guy in CBS like 4 years ago? His first name was Jose but I can't recall the last. Anway, he went from doing the AM show on CBS to Telemundo and now he's a big star there from what I hear. Speaking of morning shows will they let Harry Smith go already? CBS has the worst show in the AM simply because they have no oddball personalities. Smith was the 80s anchor for them and its pathetic that they had to bring him back to stay in the running. For national news hands down Bob Scheifer on CBS rules! I like his intelligent comments minimal stupid small talk and his team of reporters is the least annoying. Also, at times Bob looks totally crazy and it's really entertaining. Look at this guy. If someone like this lived next door to you there would never be a boring day. dbigtex56
Fascinating, seeing the different 'takes' people have on anchormen (anchorpeople? anchorpersons? Max Headroom?)Can't wait to see how Good Night, and Good Luck interprets the power of those who deliver the medium of television to us. Hope it doesn't suck. LarryDallas
OMG I almost forgot about Jessica Willey. She's another one that every time I see her little doe-eyed self I think, "Damn, she missed her calling as a porn star." Can you see it? Can you just IMAGINE it? Next time you see her, imagine her in a corset and a thong with thigh highs and doing something really dirty....I swear she's all over that!!!!!!! HAHA Yeah I guess I could see that. Thanks a lot now I'll be all weird wathing KTRK. I do see your point. With any reporter you kind of wonder what their calling in life would have been if TV had not worked out for them. Just my short list of some names mentioned here on the thread: Dave Ward - sheriff of some small south Texas county with police cars that have vynil seats and bronze paint, he is the epitome of the classic southern elder (way cool in a retro kinda way) Bill Balleza - used car salesman at a really sleazy lot, can't trust a guy who changes hair color overnight Illona Carson - the female Keebler Elf, see pic in earlier post Gina Gaston - a dominatrix that beats her client and says they are no good, she'd lack a good attitude even to paying customers Dominique Sachse - a receptionist/living demonstration at a plastic surgeon's office; see pic in earlier post Gasia Makelian - a school teacher all of the boys have a crush on; she seemed classy/sweet Gerome Gray - a Texas state congressman; he seems very inteligent and well spoken Reggi Aqui - a billionaire fashion designer; the guy knows how to dress and speak Sara Allen - a social worker with a 99% success rate due to the destitute finding work/income really fast casue her overly cheerful manerism would drive them away quickly

Parrothead
The only reason I didn't like the report is because I am an agent. Well, was an agent. I'm not currently working due to the little one I have at home. IMHO, it was edited to make us all look bad, like we're ripoff artists, as if Realtors are totally unnecessary. That's how I took it. Larry, LOL, your assessment of where our news anchors/reporters would be if not in journalism is DEAD ON! I was laughing the whole time. I totally see Dominique as a receptionist for a plastic surgeon's office!!! Perfect!!!!
ssullivan
You know, I didn't even know some of these people had moved on until I read it here. I see someone new and I think they're just filling in. Then I get so used to seeing them that I forget about the other personI usually don't notice a reporter is gone until I see him/her on the local news in another city. Then it's like a light bulb comes on and I realize I haven't seen that person on the news back home in ages. That happened earlier this year in Philadelphia with Nydia Han - I had not missed her at all until I saw her on the news one night up there.Speaking of Philly news, until just a couple of years ago (about 2001/2) their ABC affiliate's newscast was straight out of the 1970s. The music, the set, everything. They were still doing weather reports using a big map on a board with magnetic graphics for storms and fronts and temperature stuck to it. They still have the funky 70s music but at least have modernized the studio and graphics. The first time I ever saw Philly's "Action News" about 1998 I was shocked because it was a good 15-20 years outdated. It was definitely not something you'd expect to see in a major US city. Even small town television stations were more modern than that show was in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Jeebus
I wasn't going to go through the trouble of griping about this - but tonight on ABC 13, the following was reported: 1. Stephanie Guadian reported live from Highway 246 about a cement truck & van collision. 2. Dave Ward reported that Jig-Saw was number one at the box office this week. Thank God for accuracy in reporting, right? Edited November 1, 2005 by Jeebus

She seemed to rush the end of the report almost as if she were somewhat embarrased. Oh well I still love that woman.

Jeebus
She kept pronouncing cement as "see-ment"... I think she kept confusing herself by not deciding whether to say Cemex or cement, which ultimately equally to "sea-mint". MidtownCoog
Channel 2 morning show has lost all creativity. Not that they had any to begin with, save the short-lived Sam Malone fiasco. On a slow news day, they will either recycle old stories, or report on something minor in San Antonio. They also excel at talking over a report from another station. A story of which is usally a few weeks old to begin with.
kjb434
The morning show repeats the same stories as the 10pm news from the night before. If i'm going to watch, I can only see one because of the repetition.
LarryDallas
Guardian is an average reporter. I do like her style and how she does not come off as total sleeze trying to get ahead in her job rather than really getting the story. But, that said I can't stand how she dleiberately makes these facial expressions to seem subserviant to the viewer. It's like she is your personal errand girl and she is telling you the godfather all about things. Ugh...I just hate gimics like that.It is very true that the morning show in KPRC has lost all creative or unique aspects to it. Conflenti is overworked. He hosts the 4 pm news with Lorelle daily. Even if he goes home during the day to catch some Zs the guy is out on the job in some way over 12 hours a day. McNeil goes home right after her show based on her not doing any general assignment reports anymore. I kinda miss Sara Allen...lol. Remember when Don Armstrong was co-hosting it with either Sara or Gasia in early 05? You could tell he hated to make jokes and be cheerful so early in the AM. Remember Chuck George (weather guy)? Who was the AM anchor when he was there? As I recall they had a great chemistry between the newsdesk, weather, and traffic at that time. Who do you think really hates e/o at KPRC?We all know Lorelle has probably already slashed Sache's tires but who else?

dbigtex56
Good ol' K-PRiCk! They just reported that there was a fire overnight at a shopping center "in Midtown Houston". MidtownCoog
Ch 2 needs a map and a compass.I always laugh when they report from. "Northeast Houston", which acutally end up being the "Northeast' side of downtown. This happens all the time.Being a southeasterner, i always catch what all the local stations call southeast. It runs the gamut.I have seen things from South Main (90A) all the way around to I-10 east called southeast. It can be like Midtown Coog said where its still in downtown or way out at the Beltway. All the stations seem to want to avoid the term "South Houston" probably to diminish the confusion it might cause with the City of South Houston. So places along the South Loop or places more south than southeast or southwest typically never get called South. An annoyance of mine is Ch2's insistence on including the county in the story location.Half of the people probably have no idea of where some of the counties in the area are anyway (or care). Its the city or subdivision or direction that people know...the county doesnt do much more to locate anything for most people.I guess I should give them a thumbs up for educating the masses. "Northeast Houston", which acutally end up being the "Northeast' side of downtown. This happens all the time.It sure does. This afternoon, a KPRC (who else?) reporter was covering a story from the Multi-Purpose Center on West Gray. She concluded by saying "This is Mary Benton, reporting live from southwest Houston."What is 'southwest Houston' - maybe 100 square miles? Think you could narrow it down a bit, Mary? As of yesterday, that was still there. Another medical facility..oh good..are there a lot of sick people around here or something??? I figured whoever bought that building would have to do a lot of remediation to the site from the cleaner chemicals ..but i guess they didnt...maybe that means they will make themselves more customers that way.
