Following Wood Lane Partners' acquisition of 325 W 20th St in late December, a plumbing permit was purchased in February. The next month, a demolition permit was purchased.

Details from the permits:

  • Use: Demo building / sewer disconnect
  • FCC Group: Demo; other building(s)

I have not visited this area in months. So, I'm uncertain if the building, which was previously occupied by WellMed, is still standing. I'm also not sure what's planned for the property.

As previously posted, Wood Lane Partners acquired the adjacent parcels that include 313 W 20th St and 317 W 20th St a few months ago, in addition to 325 W 20th St.

Given its proximity to The Daphne Hotel going up at 347 W 20th St, it's possible 325 W 20th St could be incorporated in some way to the hotel. Perhaps the developer will release additional information in the coming months.

The Leader has a feature on the former T C Jester House at 317 W 20th St.

Last month, the building was demolished. The article doesn't mention what Wood Lane Partners have in store for the 317 W 20th St and 325 W 20th St.

From the article:

As the taxes and cost of upkeep were becoming unmanageable, they were approached by Ben Ackerley of Wood Lane Partners, the development company building the new Hotel Daphne on 20th and agreed to sell, as did the remaining owners on the block. Then in April 2024, T.C. Jester House was razed to the ground.

The only remaining visible evidence of the Jester’s and Lee’s residency is an address placard, embedded in the remains of the brick walkway to the former home.

Ackerley was knee-deep in the design process when fate and a common acquaintance aligned his Hotel Daphne project with Austin-based Bunkhouse Hotels, a hotel property management firm known for its eclectic, unique, boutique-type hotels in Austin and other locations in and out of state. Ackerley said, “It was a great match, they have so much experience and when you’re doing this, especially for the first time, there’s so much that can go wrong. They’ve been a great source of guidance and support, as we navigate this learning curve. We want nothing more, than to get this right, both for us and for the community. We were already well into the process, but couldn’t ignore the obvious benefits of the partnership.”

The Bunkhouse hotel brand, which is adding high-design boutique hotels under construction in Houston’s  Montrose area and The Heights, is being acquired by Hyatt Hotels Corp.

Hyatt, based in Chicago, is one of the largest hotel companies in the world with 1,350 hotels in 78 countries.

Bunkhouse is currently building the 71-room Hotel St. Augustine, a $57 million project near the Menil Collection museum, just west of Montrose Boulevard. The St. Augustine, designed by Lake Flato architects of San Antonio, will have a chef-driven restaurant called Bistro Perseid.

In The Heights, Bunkhouse is building the 47-room Hotel Daphne at 347 W 20th Street. The Daphne is slated to open in 2025.

Hyatt said in a press release that the planned acquisition of the Bunkhouse and Standard hotel  “will continue Hyatt’s evolution to a brand- and experience-driven company.“
