Highrise Tower
Master Framework 2030 - Bridging Strategy dated 1.28.2022. MD Anderson is focusing on a new campus called South of Holcombe. It will be a total of 4 buildings (+1 garage). They are shifting out of the North Campus and creating a formal South of Holcombe Campus. I wonder if this shift is preparing for the planned dual Patient Towers? The 2 and 3 Ambulatory Clinical Buildings are being designed for future vertical expansion! Will reach a total of 25 floors!! The next 10 years of the TMC is going to be wild!!

For some reason, when this post showed up in the new post listing, I read it as "Impatient Bed Towers", giving an image of an angry bed demanding a patient be found. I know my way around MD Anderson reasonably well, but could not tell you how to get to the room I spent 9 days in. It's an amazing hospital, but you don't really want to be there. The standard of care is very high, and the staff are very positive, especially given how many terminal cases they deal with. I am very happy this institution is in Houston, and not somewhere else.

Popular Post Highrise Tower
February 22-23, 2023 Meeting of the U. T. System Board of Regents - Facilities Planning and Construction Committee Previous Actions: On May 22, 2019, the Chancellor approved this project for Definition Phase as the Inpatient Bed Tower with total project cost of $600,000,000. On August 25, 2022, the Board approved the project for Definition Phase with an anticipated total project cost of $1,250,000,000, authorized expenditure of up to $62,500,000 from institutional funds to complete Definition Phase, and approved the project name change to Inpatient Bed Tower, Phase 1 - Support Services Building. On January 3, 2023, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Capital Projects approved the project name change to Clinical Services Building. Project Description: The proposed Clinical Services Building (CSB) will be a major addition to the existing U. T. M. D. Anderson Cancer Center campus at the Texas Medical Center (TMC) in Houston. The facility will be located at the northeast corner of the TMC Campus on the site where the recently demolished Dental Branch building was located. The CSB is to be approximately 750,000 gross square feet, including approximately 10,000 gross square feet of shell space to support future growth. The CSB will include a basement and eleven floors of new construction and a mechanical penthouse. Key occupants of the CSB will include pathology and laboratory medicine, pharmacy, perioperative services, clinical engineering, and patient transportation. The CSB will also include space for an education and simulation center, patient food and dietary services, materials management, environmental services, and building services and support. A full floor will be included for a translational work environment that will be used to support the institution's strategy for vacating facilities that are to be demolished to create the site for the new inpatient bed tower. Expected to be constructed in 10 years under a future phase, the new bed tower will contribute to the overall strategy for modernizing and expanding inpatient care capacity. The project also involves the completion of certain enabling work related to the relocation and expansion of bulk medical gas storage tanks and emergency fuel storage tanks and construction of elevated pedestrian walkways that will connect the CSB to the Main Building complex. It is anticipated that the CSB can be directly connected to the Inpatient Bed Tower that is to be constructed in about 10 years. Highrise Tower
Urbannizer posted the rendering of the CSB on Friday. It's just spectacular! One of MD Anderson's better buildings. Thought I would add the rendering to the Master Facilities Framework 2023 thread. I wonder the architect? Kind of reminds me of Elkus Manfredi. I know EM has been partnering with both TMC and MDA for a few years already.

Houston19514
Ah, Yes. My apologies. But let's hope they don't actually plan to call it the "South of Holcombe Campus". (1) it's unwieldy and (2) it's not sufficiently descriptive -- They would then have the South Campus, the Mid Campus, and the South of Holcombe Campus, all literally South of Holcombe. By the way, could you provide a link to the master plan? Edited October 22, 2023 by Houston19514

Centralize South Campus Vivarium/Biosciences Research Facility: The proposed project will construct a one-of-a-kind vivarium facility of approximately 269,500 gross square feet (GSF), comprising three floors and a two-floor mechanical equipment penthouse that will initially provide capacity for 26,500 animals, research space, and the requisite supporting spaces and equipment. The scope of the project will also include demolition of an existing parking lot, a hazardous materials storage building, and an operation and maintenance building; site work encompassing utility infrastructure work, site flatwork, lighting, and landscaping; construction of the building shell and core; and the interior finish out of Floors 1 and 2. Approximately 78,000 gross square feet of shell space will be created by the project to be finished out under a future project. Project Number: 703-1302 Gross Square Feet (GSF): 269,500 Total Project Cost: $335,000,000 Consolidated Service Center: The Consolidated Service Center (CSC) will be a free-standing, centralized hub and will be located on the institution's East Campus, designed and constructed to meet the institution's facility needs. The scope of the project will include site development, which encompasses utility infrastructure work; new construction of the exterior shell and core; and the interior finish-out of the facility.
