editor
I just noticed that iChat has a function to replace my "available" status with my current iTunes track. I'm not sure what the point of this is other than the gee-whiz factor, but it got me wondering what other people listen to while they're computing.Right now I'm listening to an album by Conjure One called Damascus. The band is really just one guy in Canada who hires big name singers like Dido to sing just one of the songs. So even though it sounds like a complete album, each track is vocally distinct because it's all the similar voices from different singers. In style, it's vaguely Middle Eastern, but also very orchestral. So.. What's in your pod?
MidtownCoog
The new CD from Andy Bell.Notice I say CD. I could not imagine using an iPod.I bought an Archos 6GB MP3 back in 2001. Been there, done that, as far as the MP3 trend goes.
RedScare
I'm with Coog. Having grown up through LPs, 8 tracks, cassettes, CDs, mp3s, and now iTunes, I called BS about the 4th time I had to convert my music. And, since I don't need my music blaring while I walk to the car, my CDs are small enough. That said, I've got Disc 2 of Bob Marley's 4 Disc set in the box right now.Iree. Talbot
Computer buzzing, since I am at school. But I do have my iPod in my pocket for next period, I just don't want it to get taken up by the current teacher. It's too expensive to be taken up. Jeebus
Notice I say CD. I could not imagine using an iPod.iPods are a scam - just as much as the Apple store selling only locked mp3 formats is.Mp3's in general though, are worth the effort. It took me three months to rip my wife's CD collection back in 2001. Fortunately, I only had to do it once.iPods are a scam - just as much as the Apple store selling only locked mp3 formats is.Have you ever tried right-clicking on the song and selecting "Convert to MP3?"When I ripped my wife's CD collection (about 400 at that time) I did it to AAC because of the smaller file size, and at the time hard drive space was at a premium. Ever since then, whenever we've wanted to play a song on anything that doesn't support AAC from a MP3 CD to a PSP, it's as simple as right clicking. Jeebus
Have you ever tried right-clicking on the song and selecting "Convert to MP3?"It won't let me do it. A pop-up window opens saying that iTunes can't convert protected formats (.m4p) to unprotected formats (.mp3).

A pop-up window opens saying that iTunes can't convert protected formats (.m4p) to unprotected formats (.mp3).Strange. I've never had that problem. Maybe it's a Windows thing. I guess the workaround is to burn to a CD and re-rip to MP3. Or download a program like JHymn or something.

editor
And you are referring to music you've purchased from the iTunes store right?I can't say specifically. The majority of my AACs are ripped from CDs. Maybe that's the difference. I'll have to try it out when I get home.
