Highrise Tower
I saw this business listing in a Rice University The Thresher magazine dated May 25, 1944. The Recreation Bowling Alley was located at 6445 South Main St. Phil Munn. was the manger. Right across from Rice. Very cool! Edit: Here's an ad from October 6, 1948 that includes the address. Highrise Tower
Found the building! Only on HAIF can you see a photograph of this bowling alley! Look at that cool, small, stand on the bottom right. Root Beer or Hamburger stand? Fake edit: Called it! According to the address, that is the Someburger Stand at 6421 South Main St. The white restaurant on the far left? I believe I noticed it on the LOC website once. I recognize the poor construction by the cliff/unpaved road. I'll try and find it this upcoming week. Onto the Recreation Bowling Alley located at 6445 South Main Street!
brucesw
Awesome pics HT but when do they date from? Someburger (yea!) was founded in '55 by 2 UT students in Austin. Color scheme (at least of the only ones I ever saw) was dark green and yellow but that could have been adopted later. Interesting, though; I have never seen mention of a Someburger on S. Main I don't think. Edited September 3, 2023 by brucesw
