Highrise Tower
I was browsing the newspaper The Houston Post dated November 28, 1923 and came across this ad for McMillian's Dance Academy. I didn't see this business talked about on HAIF. The dance academy was a big thing to do on the weekends. Not sure where it was located. I bet someplace downtown on Main, Fannin, etc. On The Houston Post's Weekend Attractions article it has a dancing categoryand lists the following: Sylvan Beach, Bay Shore Park, McMillian's Dancing Academy. "Dance for a Real Honest to Goodness Time Have Your Friends Meet You At Our Thanksgiving Ball" Two Orchestras. Jack Willrich and the Night Owls will furnish continuous music - so dance lovers can dance-dance-dance to their hearts' content - and dance some more. At the bottom: Spoiler Unfortunately, I also saw an ad for the Ku Klux Klan. A "charity circus" event. That is wild! Published in the major city paper out in the open.
